While in Brazil for the Earthshot Prize, Prince William attended several engagements. He delivered a rousing speech to the crowd during the global environmental awards ceremony, was joined by his superstar pal Tom Cruise, and gave a sit-down interview about his efforts.

During the interview, the 43-year-old got a question that some believe was about his disgraced uncle, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. Here’s how the Prince of Wales responded, and what royal fans are saying after that “dirty” question.

Prince William hit with question about his Uncle Andrew

While chatting with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, she asked William about a comment he made during a TV special with Eugene Levy regarding future changes within the royal family.

“Given the fact that there’s been a lot of change in your own family recently, and you yourself have talked about change, just talk about this change a little bit … Where do you see the change, and what do you think needs to happen?” Amanpour asked.

William didn’t hesitate and responded to the question by linking it back to his Earthshot Prize, saying, “I think the Earthshot Prize is a classic example of change. Rather than talk about it, we’re doing it. I want to surround myself with people who want to make change and do good in the world.”

Some royal fans were not happy with Amanpour’s question and made their feelings known on X.com, writing, “Smart enough to recognize a trap when he sees one and neatly sidesteps it. Not only that, he didn’t want to take away from what he was doing to dirty it with family dirty laundry. It wasn’t the time or place for that and she should have known better.”

Another commented: “He’s the future king of the U.K. and been taught by the best, he doesn’t fall for leading questions, just politely brushes them aside then moves on!” And a third posted on X.com, “She wanted to talk about gossip. He kept it relevant to what the topic is about here. Smart leader!”

How the prince mirrored his mother, Princess Diana, during the Earthshot Awards

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet: “Prince William is deeply passionate about his causes — and it shows in every gesture. Much like his mother, Princess Diana, his sincerity radiates through his body language.

“When giving his speech, William’s clenched fist punctuated his words with conviction. Even more telling, his gestures move in perfect sync with his voice, which is a clear sign of authenticity. When someone’s genuine, their movements and tone naturally align; when they’re not, they don’t.”

The expert added, “At one point, he brings his hands to his chest as he talks about being deeply encouraged. It’s a subtle but powerful gesture showing that he truly believes in what he’s saying. His interactions with people reinforce that. Like Diana, he listens intently, maintains warm eye contact, and nods in genuine engagement.

“You can see people light up around him — not because he’s a royal, but because he’s present. Whether he’s sitting cross-legged on a classroom floor or speaking with presidents, William’s body language reflects his empathy and humility. Just like his mother, he connects with people on their level.”

Showbiz Cheat Sheet acknowledges that conditions and cultures can impact body language and is sensitive to all backgrounds.
