Prince William has been estranged from Prince Harry and his brother’s wife, Meghan Markle, for years. They haven’t even been on speaking terms.

One of William’s friends previously told The Daily Beast, the Prince of Wales has not forgiven the Duke of Sussex as he “feels utterly betrayed … He hates [Harry] for what he has done to the family in the books and interviews … It’s no secret William would prefer it if Harry never stepped foot in England again.”

And after the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) was diagnosed with cancer in 2024 and underwent chemotherapy, it was reported that the Sussexes were the furthest things from the Waleses’ minds, and these days William and Kate just ignore their antics. But Meghan can still do things to get under her brother-in-law’s skin, and anything that has to do with his late mother, Princess Diana, is a trigger.

A Radar Online report claims that Meghan and Harry are going to produce a documentary to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana in 2027. The film will “examine Diana’s life, her treatment by the media and the monarchy, and the impact of her death on her sons.”

There have been rumblings about this in the past, but now it’s believed that the project is in the early stages of discussion. The report also suggests that Meghan will take on a large role behind the scenes, a move that is reportedly not sitting well with Prince William.

Sources say that the Prince of Wales insists that any commercial involvement or influence over his mother’s legacy by his estranged sister-in-law, who never met Diana, crosses a personal boundary, and he is considering legal action to stop any production before it even starts.

“What has struck a nerve for William is the extent of Meghan’s role in the project,” a source told the outlet. “He feels that allowing her to influence or derive any benefit from Diana’s legacy crosses a deeply personal boundary, and he experiences it as a betrayal of his mother rather than a tribute.”

The insider added that William feels that “transforming his mother’s life into marketable content is deeply distasteful” and “he firmly believes Diana herself would have been appalled by the idea of her story being repackaged for profit, especially by a global streaming platform.”

William has always been protective of his mother’s legacy, especially where Meghan is concerned.

Royal author Robert Jobson claimed that when Meghan married Harry, the Prince of Wales demanded that she not be permitted to wear any of his mother’s jewelry to the chapel that day. The duchess was seen sporting Diana’s aquamarine ring later only at the evening reception.

“[William] sought assurances from the queen that Harry’s bride would not be wearing any of Princess Diana’s jewelry, even though his own wife was allowed to wear it,” Jobson wrote per Express.

Insiders also say that William has always has real problem with anyone making a comparison between his mom and Meghan, telling Closer magazine: “William doesn’t want to deprive Harry of the right to celebrate their mother’s legacy. What bothers him is how Meghan parades around as the modern-day version of Diana. He finds that beyond tasteless and offensive, not only to him but also to Kate.”
