It’s being reported that King Charles’ brother, Prince Andrew, has decided to give up his Duke of York title. The news comes after pressure from the monarch and others as more allegations and claims have been about the disgraced prince’s association with the late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

In a statement, Andrew said the decision to do so was made “in discussion with the king and my immediate and wider family.” This also means that Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will no longer be allowed to use the Duchess of York title.

Now that Andrew has given up the title, one question remains: What does this means for the “York” sisters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie?

Th siblings are not working royals but they have still done plenty of engagements and appearances over the years, even after their parents’ scandals broke. This puts Prince William, the future king, in a tough spot as he will be heading the Firm one day and always knew he could rely on his cousins’ help whenever needed.

As former BBC correspondent Jennie Bond wrote in The I Paper, “William is prepared to challenge tradition and defend the institution from becoming irrelevant in this fast-moving world.”

Bond noted that Andrew’s decision, although it’s what William, the king, and majoirty of the public wanted, it still puts the Prince of Wales in a predicament since “he is very fond of his cousins Beatrice and Eugenie, who adore their parents, in spite of everything that has happened. Banishing or humiliating Andrew and Fergie [completely] would cause the sisters further hurt. And that’s a tough nut for William to crack.”
