Princess Diana’s Former Hairdresser Talks About Kate Middleton’s New Blonde Do, Says He’s ‘Disgusted’
Days after being photographed in a vehicle while in Scotland with what looked like much lighter hair, the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) debuted her new blonde locks during an engagement with Prince William.
The royal couple visited London’s Natural History Museum on Sept. 4, and Kate’s hair became a topic of discussion. After the Waleses’ Instagram account posted photos from the day, plenty of fans complimented the princess’s new do. But there were many others who weren’t anywhere near as kind and ripped apart Kate’s blonde look.
Now, even Princess Diana‘s former hairdresser is weighing in and says he’s pretty “disgusted” over the whole thing. Read on to find out why.
Princess Diana’s hairdresser ‘disgusted’ over what he’s heard about Kate’s hair
Mixed with the compliments of people who liked the change were some nasty remarks saying Kate’s hair looked “cheap,” and “like a mop,” while others assumed it was a wig or “bad extensions.”
Sam McKnight, who was Princess Diana’s personal hairstylist from 1990 until her death in 1997, decided to take to Instagram with a message for those who were making negative comments about Kate. He wrote: “I am shocked, horrified, dismayed, and disgusted by all the nasty comments about the Princess of Wales today. A woman’s hair is very personal to her, it’s armor, defense, confidence, and so much more.
“I cannot believe how evil and lacking in any kind of empathy are the comments, the majority made apparently by other women, attacking a vulnerable other young woman, who has no choice, by dint of who she married, and the role she took on, to bravely face the public.”
McKnight concluded, “I’m sure she would rather be away from the public arena. She has brilliantly and quietly, unselfishly represented our country, the soft power we still have as a nation. Cancer affects individuals differently, but is life-changing for everyone. So FFS LEAVE HER ALONE. SHAME ON YOU.”
Psychologist suggests a deeper meaning as to why the princess changed her hair color
A British psychologist gave her thoughts on Kate’s new look and explained that the change could mean much more to Prince William’s wife than people realize.
According to Carolyn Mair, Ph.D., Kate’s hair is a part of her identity and the change may shift her entire outlook on things.
“Hair is our crowning glory and a symbol of health and femininity. Kate might want to make a fresh start by embracing a lighter outlook on life,” Mair told Fox News Digital.
The psychologist also opined that a color change makes sense if Kate lost any hair during her cancer treatments.
“I don’t know if Princess Kate lost her hair during her treatment. But if she did, she might want to color it blonde as a means of drawing attention to it,” Mair said. “She may be reclaiming agency and visibility, and leaving her illness behind.”
