Princess Kate and Princess Charlotte Bring Back ’90s Accessory as Searches Soar
Like mother, like daughter. For years, the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) has been setting trends all over the globe with every outfit and accessory she wears. Now her daughter, Princess Charlotte, is doing the same as searches have been soaring for a hair accessory the young royal favors.
Search data compiled by Fresha, the world’s leading beauty and wellness booking platform, reveals searches for “hair accessories” have increased by 111% year-on-year, now reaching around 607,000 Google searches every month. Meanwhile, searches for “hair clips” have climbed to 718,000 monthly searches, while “hair bows” now generate around 79,000 searches each month, as elegant finishing touches return to the forefront of beauty trends.
Velvet bows, polished clips, pearl embellishments and understated accessories have become a signature feature of royal style, regularly worn by the Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte.
Fresha beauty expert Danielle Louise told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “For several years we’ve seen hairstyles become increasingly minimal, with slick buns and polished ponytails doing most of the work on their own … Hair accessories are the easiest way to achieve that. Whether it’s a velvet bow, an oversized clip or a simple ribbon. They instantly make even the most straightforward hairstyle feel more polished.”
Louise added, “The royal family has always had a huge influence on beauty and fashion, particularly when it comes to timeless, wearable styles. Whenever we see Princess Kate or Princess Charlotte wearing elegant accessories, it reminds people that these looks aren’t just for special occasions.
“There’s much more focus on hair health now. Rather than relying on heated styling every day, many people are choosing simple updos secured with clips or bows, which are gentler on the hair while still looking elegant.”
