Priscilla Presley Let Robert Kardashian Listen in on ‘Intimate’ Conversations With Elvis

Priscilla Presley dated Robert Kardashian in the 1970s, following the finalization of her divorce from Elvis. Though their marriage ended, Elvis and Priscilla remained close. She still attended his shows, visited Graceland, and spoke to him over the phone. He often called her at odd hours, reportedly speaking intimately to her. Kardashian was aware of what they discussed, as she reportedly let him listen in.

Priscilla said she never stopped loving Elvis, but she realized she couldn’t be with him if she ever wanted a life of her own. She asked for a divorce, something he didn’t want.

“After their divorce, Elvis wouldn’t let go,” Priscilla’s mother, Ann, said in Elvis by the Presleys. “He called me and said, ‘Please speak with Cilla.’ He begged me to convince her to go back to him.”

Priscilla didn’t budge, but they still remained friends. He often confided in her and called her late at night. This didn’t stop when she began a relationship with Kardashian.

According to a friend of Kardashian, the attorney frequently complained that Elvis often interrupted him and Priscilla when they were having sex by calling. Per Page Six, Priscilla “would put the bedside receiver on the pillow between her and Robert and allow him to listen in on the King’s intimate conversations with his ex-wife.”

While Kardashian told friends that he listened to Elvis’ late-night calls, Priscilla claimed she didn’t want him anywhere near the phone. She worried that if Elvis learned she was talking to another man, he would fly into a rage.

“Despite our divorce, he still couldn’t wrap his head around my being with someone else,” she wrote in her book Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis (via Rolling Stone). “He’d have gone ballistic, maybe literally, if he’d known Robert was in my bedroom.”

Elvis was known to fire his gun if he didn’t like what was on the television. He also allegedly tried to find a hitman to kill another one of her former boyfriends, Mike Stone.

“Elvis always carried a loaded gun, sometimes more than one,” she wrote. “I put my hand over my mouth to stifle the sound of my yawn while Elvis continued to talk.”

Priscilla and Kardashian’s relationship didn’t last. Her ongoing relationship with Elvis didn’t help matters. His friend, Larry Kraines, said Kardashian told him Priscilla was “terrific …But this guy Elvis doesn’t stop controlling her.”

Still, he thought highly of her. Though she didn’t want to marry again, Kardashian would have married and started a family with her.

“Priscilla made Robert very happy,” their friend Joni Migdal said. “He wanted to marry her and have children with her. That was definitely his hope, his plan.”

Before Kardashian’s death, Priscilla called him to speak to him one final time.
