It has been three weeks since the body of Lil Jon’s son, Nathan Smith, was recovered from a pond near his home. The aspiring DJ, who performed under the stage name Young Slade,  was reported missing days before his body was found, and the story was a bit mysterious. Now, an official cause of death has been revealed.

Nathan Smith’s death has been ruled accidental

Nathan Smith’s death has been ruled an accident. According to People, official reports indicate that Smith’s cause of death was drowning. Still, that was not the only factor that played a role in his accidental death. According to toxicology reports, Smith had psilocybin in his system when he died.

Psilocybin is a tryptamine alkaloid commonly found in magic mushrooms. The psychedelic drug causes hallucinations, euphoria, and deep introspection. While there has been research into its therapeutic benefits, there are some rare negative side effects, including psychological effects, associated with the use of psilocybin.

A timeline of events

Initial reports that Nathan Smith was missing came in on February 3, just hours after a 911 call was placed to emergency responders in Georgia. The Milton Police Department noted that the 27-year-old had left his home under “unusual” circumstances and could not be located.

Later, it was revealed that Smith had run out of his residence, leaving his phone behind, suddenly in the early morning hours. He was last seen in a residential neighborhood with a mix of townhomes and larger single-family properties.  Initial reports indicated that Smith might be disoriented and in distress. Police reports did not indicate that drug use was a potential factor.
