Psychologist Shares Theory About Why Kate Middleton Chose to Dye Her Hair Blonde
It’s been a rough couple of years for the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) and her family.
After announcing that she had abdominal surgery in January 2024, the princess became the subject of speculation and wild rumors after she was not seen in public for some time. To combat some of the nasty rumors about her and her whereabouts, Kate decided to let the world in on the truth. She had been diagnosed with cancer and was going through “preventive chemotherapy.”
Well-wishes poured in from around the world as the princess gradually returned to her royal duties throughout 2024 and 2025. Cameras recently captured her on summer break in Scotland, and fans noticed a change to her hair.
Now, a psychologist is sharing why changing hair color could be significant for someone like Kate.
Psychologist believes Kate Middleton’s hair change may signal more than just a style change
According to British psychologist Carolyn Mair, Ph.D., Kate’s hair is a part of her identity, and the change may shift her entire outlook on things.
Mair told Fox News Digital: “Hair is our crowning glory and a symbol of health and femininity. Kate might want to make a fresh start by embracing a lighter outlook on life.”
The psychologist also opined that a color change makes sense if Prince William’s wife lost any hair during her cancer treatments.
“I don’t know if Princess Kate lost her hair during her treatment. But if she did, she might want to color it blonde as a means of drawing attention to it,” Mair said. “She may be reclaiming agency and visibility, and leaving her illness behind.”
What Kate said about being ‘cancer free’ and completing chemotherapy
In September 2024, Kate posted an emotional video featuring William and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
In it, the princess shared the news that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment. She expressed her relief at finishing the treatment after her tough journey and explained that she was focusing on remaining “cancer free.”
“The cancer journey is complex, scary, and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you. With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything,” she said in the clip audio. “This time has, above all, reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved. Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus.”
In January 2025, the Princess of Wales announced that she is in remission from cancer, following a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital where she received treatment.
