R. Kelly Sympathizes With Diddy, Despite Past Fued
R. Kelly and Diddy’s lives appear to be mirroring each other. Both rose to professional success as music artists and producers. Both artists had luxurious lifestyles and were fawned over by fans before their downfalls. They were both brought down for sex trafficking and racketeering charges, with their sexual proclivities broadcast to the world. Diddy and R. Kelly were never friends, but apparently, the latter is sympathetic toward the former as he stands trial.
R. Kelly’s lawyer says his client sympathizes with Diddy
Rumors that R. Kelly was quietly supporting Diddy from inside his own jail cell surfaced weeks ago. Reports suggest R. Kelly has been outspoken about his support. Now, his lawyer is speaking out and confirming that the disgraced R&B artist does have a soft spot for Diddy despite their longstanding tension and the way Diddy spoke about R. Kelly during his fall from grace.
In a chat with TMZ, R. Kelly’s lawyer, Beau Brindley, said that while R. Kelly and Diddy have never been friends, he feels for the disgraced mogul and understands what he is going through. Brindley then launched into a tirade about the legal system and how he believes Black entertainers are being prosecuted for their “sexual preferences.”
Brindley is actively attempting to have R. Kelly released from prison, claiming the artist is hoping for a presidential pardon. R. Kelly is reportedly in special housing after an alleged murder plot was uncovered. He is housed in a federal prison in North Carolina.
Why didn’t R. Kelly and Diddy like each other?
It makes sense that R. Kelly would have the inside track on how Diddy might be feeling at the moment. After all, they’ve been accused of similar crimes, and both lived in the same glamorous world before their arrests. R. Kelly was convicted in New York of sex trafficking and racketeering. Diddy is currently standing trial for the same charges. R. Kelly was also convicted of additional charges, including producing child pornography.
While Diddy and R. Kelly may have a few things in common, especially now, the music stars were not friends. In fact, they had a quiet feud that spanned years. Diddy and R. Kelly collaborated briefly in 1999 but soon went their separate ways, with Diddy and R. Kelly each opting to focus on fostering relationships with other artists.
They were quiet, creative rivals until R. Kelly’s arrest. During that time, Diddy openly distanced himself from the rapper. He even appeared on The Breakfast Club to claim we “can’t support darkness.” The irony of the statement is only now coming into full focus.
