Ray J’s 2026 medical journey has had more ups and downs than a theme park ride. The music artist kicked off the year by suggesting he was handed a death sentence by doctors after an illness landed him in the hospital. Apparently, his recovery has been nothing short of miraculous. Earlier this month, he was medically sound enough to compete in an MMA fight, though he did land in the hospital immediately following the bout. Now, Ray J is offering another health update, and he seems to be feeling pretty optimistic.

Ray J Offers a New Health Update

On May 23, Ray J agreed to fight Supa Hot Fire in a featured MMA bout. It didn’t last long. Ray J was leveled in a violent second-round knockout. While Ray J was conscious following the perfectly delivered combo that knocked him out, he was clearly dazed.

Following the fight, he made comments that led to an investigation into whether the bout was rigged. Allegations of a prearranged outcome weren’t Ray J’s biggest problem, though. Shortly after the fight, he landed back in the hospital.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Ray J took himself to the emergency room in Las Vegas shortly after the fight and was admitted. While there, doctors checked the internet celebrity for a concussion. A check-up on his cardiac issues was also performed. Ray J spent several days in the hospital before being discharged on May 28.

Speaking to TMZ, the music artist said he was feeling much better and that his health continued to improve. He did not offer an update on his heart condition, but he seems confident enough that all is well that he’s planning more MMA bouts. The fact that he passed a physical required to compete in Nevada seems to indicate his health is very much on the upswing.

What Heart Condition Does Ray J Have?

In January 2026, Ray J took to social media to share a health update following a stint in the hospital with pneumonia. The news was not good. During an Instagram Live, he told followers that “2027 is definitely a wrap for me.” He alleged that doctors had given him just months to live after finding that his heart appeared to be damaged.

Ray J never revealed his actual diagnosis, but claimed his heart had turned “black” and was beating at just 25% capacity while he was hospitalized. He also alleged that he was bedridden and on a cocktail of prescription drugs to manage the condition. Within weeks, though, the artist was back on the move, performing on stage.

We aren’t sure what his medical prognosis is right now, but Ray J seems to be feeling okay physically at the moment.
