In the update, he said his heart is barely functioning, and doctors fear for his life. News of his struggles comes after one of the R&B artist’s most chaotic years to date. Ray J spent much of 2025 in the news for various relationship problems and legal struggles. So much was going on, in fact, that you might not have noticed the time he embarrassed his then-girlfriend on a Livestream, insisting that he was never going to be in love with her.

Still, over the course of a few weeks, Ray J and Shila made things “official.” The entirety of their relationship was rocky, at best. In fact, fans couldn’t figure out exactly what the duo was doing in the first place.
Things got even stranger when Ray J told Shila, during a packed Livestream, that he was never going to love her. He went on to tell her that she shouldn’t get it “twisted.” Eventually, he revealed that his goal was to get back to his family. The awkward moment left followers in the chat uncomfortable and confused. Shila sat next to Ray J, too stunned to reply.

While Ray J and Shila spent some time together several months ago, the relationship was not built to last. Well, it wasn’t built to last without many hiccups. While Ray J told his then partner that he was never going to love her while on a Livestream with fans, that wasn’t actually what led to their first breakup. According to several sources, Ray J claimed he and Shila were “done” because Princess Love, his estranged wife, wasn’t comfortable with the pairing.
Princess Love has never spoken publicly about Ray J’s other relationships. At least, she’s never said anything publicly about Shila. After Ray J was arrested in late November after pulling a gun on her, Princess Love did say she hopes her ex gets the help he needs, but she never mentioned any other romantic partners. She might have the chance to discuss Shila now, though. Ray J and his former flame will reunite on camera during the Love Cabin reunion in just a few days, but rumors suggest they’ve rekindled their unconventional romance since the R&B artist claimed things were over.
While a reunion between Ray J and Princess Love seems unlikely at this point, there is always a chance. The complicated couple has filed for divorce and withdrawn the request multiple times over the years.
