‘RHONY’: Erin Lichy Recommends Reproductive Coercion on Instagram; Doubles Down After Criticism
As it turns out, Jill Zarin isn’t the only The Real Housewives of New York City alum whose Instagram opinions have landed them in hot water; Erin Lichy is being lambasted by fans right now for her own problematic views. The entrepreneur and former reality TV star is being criticized for suggesting reproductive coercion to her fans in an Instagram story. While the criticism is loud, Lichy isn’t backing down. She returned to social media to double down on her suggestion, insisting people need to “lighten up.”
Erin Lichy recommends reproductive coercion to a follower, then tells critics to calm down
Erin Lichy and the cast of The Real Housewives of New York City might not have a TV show right now, but that’s not stopping them from sharing their opinions and practices on social media. In the wake of Jill Zarin’s quick dismissal by E! for a troubling rant about Bad Bunny, Erin Lichy took to Instagram to try her hand at controversial comments.
The 38-year-old former reality TV star recently answered fan questions on Instagram Stories. While most of the questions and subsequent answers were mundane, one was not. Lichy advised one fan on family planning. She told the follower that if her husband is dragging his feet on having children, it’s perfectly fine to force the issue by covertly stopping birth control. She suggested that there was nothing wrong with planning an “oppsie” baby to get the ball rolling.
The backlash from the post was swift. Although the story has expired, followers shared a screenshot on Reddit showing Lichy being eviscerated by users who don’t agree with her suggestion. She claims to have received DMs about the situation, too. While most reality TV stars would probably take a step back considering the backlash, Lichy is doing the opposite. She has doubled down, suggesting everyone needs to “lighten up.” She dismissed concerns that she recommended reproductive coercion, suggesting her statement was not promoting such practices, and that she was “just joking.”
The former reality TV star was in the news for a less controversial reason just months ago
Erin Lichy and her attorney husband, Abe Lichy, were last in the news back in July for a much more mundane reason. The couple moved their expanding family out of a Tribeca apartment. They moved into a sprawling 7,000-square-foot townhouse on the Upper West Side. According to the New York Post, Lichy shared the big news on Instagram. Still, it remains unclear whether the couple has purchased the property or is leasing it. Apparently, the duo made an unconventional deal with the owners, but the details remain confidential.
Prior to their July move, Abe and Erin Lichy welcomed their fourth child together. Their son, Jack, arrived on March 30. The couple wer already parents to Elijah, Levi, and Layla. It is unclear if the couple is done expanding their family. They certainly have the space for more kids if they so choose.
