Sad news stunned Hollywood after it was reported that actor, director, and producer Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their home in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles.

Authorities who arrived at the scene on Dec. 14 are investigating an apparent homicide. Sources say the two were stabbed to death and records show that the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested and is currently in custody. The Los Angeles police chief said the suspect was “booked for murder.”

While the investigation is ongoing and so many questions need to be answered, fans and those who knew Reiner are remembering his amazing work over his more than five decades in entertainment.

Rob Reiner’s fortune when he died

Reiner was born on March 6, 1947, to comedic actors Estelle and Carl Reiner in New York City.

He became a household name in the 1970s playing Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the sitcom All in the Family. After winning two Emmy awards for that role, Reiner transitioned to working behind the camera. He went on to direct some major blockbusters, including “When Harry Met Sally,” “Stand by Me,” “The Princess Bride,” and “A Few Good Men.” 

Reiner was also very involved in political and social causes throughout his life.

Actress Mira Sorvino took to Instagram to share her feelings, writing, “I am in absolute shock. Rob Reiner was a legend and a kind, brilliant man, a wonderful actor to work opposite on Hollywood, an iconic director. His wife Michele was a lovely generous person … The world has lost two tremendous humans.”

Author Stephen King posted on X, “I’m horrified and saddened by the death of Rob Reiner and Michele. Wonderful friend, political ally, and brilliant filmmaker (including 2 of mine). Rest in peace, Rob. You always stood by me.”

In a lengthy post, Maria Shriver said that she was “devastated” and just had dinner with the couple one week earlier, writing, “I loved Michele and Rob Reiner. They were among my closest friends. We raised our kids together, from mommy and me on up. We laughed together, we cried together, we played together, we dreamed together. We had dinner this past week, and they were in the best place in their lives: loving one another, loving their friends, their family, their country … I’ll miss you, Michele. I’ll miss you, Rob. I love you both. Thank you for your friendship. God bless you both. Life will not be the same without you here, that’s for sure.”

Kamala Harris, who also knew the Reiners, added, “Rob Reiner’s work has impacted generations of Americans. The characters, dialogue, and visuals he brought to life in film and television are woven throughout our culture. Rob loved our country, cared deeply about the future of our nation, and fought for America’s democracy. Rob and his wife Michele loved each other very much. They were dear friends, and Doug and I are devastated to learn of their passing. Our thoughts are with their loved ones during this tragic time.”
