Because Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer working royals, their names didn’t come up at a state banquet for U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, hosted by the royals. But something the POTUS did say is perceived to be a dig at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

It’s no secret that Donald Trump is no fan of Meghan and Harry, and the feeling is mutual.

The former Suits star previously stated that her dislike for the president goes back to her Deal or No Deal when he visited the game show, long before he was a politician. When he ran for office and was informed how Meghan felt about him, Trump said, “I didn’t know she was nasty.”

As for Harry, the president said following Megxit, the duke had “betrayed” and treated the late Queen Elizabeth II “very disrespectfully” and that is “unforgivable.” Moreover, when asked whether he would deport the prince if his visa findings gave him grounds to do so, Trump revealed that he would not, saying, “I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with the wife. She’s terrible.”

But did the POTUS take a swipe at the Sussexes during the state dinner with Harry’s relatives? Here’s what a few commentators have said.

Trump’s comments about how ‘King Charles’ raised Prince William’ were a shot at Prince Harry

During his remarks following King Charles’ speech, Donald Trump commended the monarch for raising a wonderful son in Prince William.

“His Majesty has raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, Prince of Wales,” the president said, before looking toward William and adding, “We’ve gotten to know you and I think you’re going to have an unbelievable success in the future. Melania and I are delighted to visit again with Prince William and to see Her Royal Highness Princess Catherine. So radiant and so healthy and so beautiful … It’s truly a great honor.”

Commentator and To Di for Daily podcast host Kinsey Scofield appeared on Sky News Australia and opined that Trump’s comments about William were a shot at Harry.

Schofield explained, “I loved this little dig I think he [Trump] took at Prince Harry … No mention of Prince Harry just glowing about how much he loves the Prince and Princess of Wales. Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan are probably sitting on their couch, eating bonbons or whatever she’s throwing flower sprinkles on.”

However, other royal experts who spoke to The Sun believe that President Trump’s comment about how much King Charles does to help “wounded veterans like anybody else” was a swipe at Harry.

Another expert, Ingrid Seward, pointed to some digs at Prince Harry’s wife as well, explaining that the Trumps were so “honored” by the way they were treated because their royal hosts did it right.

She told The Sun: “I thought that Catherine and Melania were a great double act. In a way that I guess, we have never seen Meghan like that with any other woman. She always seems to be, look at me, look at Meghan, rather than as in Catherine’s case, it’s, don’t look at me, look at Melania, she’s my guest.”

Seward added: “I think it very much came that Meghan is the one that always wants the focus on her rather than anyone else. Catherine shares the limelight, and in fact, she’s a giver. She actually gave the limelight to Melania, because Melania is the first lady, and she was entertaining her, and she was a guest.”
