Royal Exile: King Charles Refused to See His Brother Andrew Despite Staying Just Five Minutes Away
The life Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor enjoyed for so long is completely over. After being stripped of his remaining royal titles, evicted from his Royal Lodge mansion, banished to Sandringham’s Wood Farm, and arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office related to his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Andrew’s older brother outright refused to see him.
King Charles spent the weekend on his Sandringham estate, just a five-minute car ride from Andrew’s temporary Wood Farm home, but gave his sibling the cold shoulder when he did not visit him. The former Duke of York has been living at Wood Farm temporarily until his new home, Marsh Farm, is ready. According to The Sun, the monarch had “no plans” to meet with his brother over the weekend despite being so close to where Andrew now resides.
But it’s not just the king. There aren’t any friends or family knocking on Andrew’s door to see him. A source told the outlet that he doesn’t have many visitors at all, saying: “Andy’s having a pretty lonely existence as his only visitors are staff, police, and delivery drivers from Waitrose. Even the king avoided Andy all weekend, despite staying two miles away and going out in his car nearby.”
Andrew was taken into custody at the Wood Farm residence on Feb. 19, which also happened to be his 66th birthday. The ex-prince, who has previously denied any wrongdoing, left the police station 11 hours after he was brought in.
When Andrew returned home though, he was dealt another blow. An insider told The Sun that the disgraced royal is basically on house arrest as he was told he is to remain inside the house and not be photographed enjoying the outdoors or partaking in his favorite pastime, which is horseback riding.
“Since his arrest, he has been ordered not to go horse riding. It’s considered a bad look,” that source shared. “They don’t think he should be seen grinning and smiling on his horse like he was in Windsor. But it was one of the few things he actually enjoyed doing so what on earth is he going to do with his time?”
Following Andrew’s arrest, King Charles released a statement that read, “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair, and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.
“In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and cooperation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”
It is not known when the siblings saw each other last.
