Prince Harry’s comments about sending Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to Britain recently received an expert opinion. In her Express UK opinion piece, Emily Wright claimed Harry and Meghan Markle made a “catastrophic mistake” by leaving royal life and moving to California.

She also argued that Prince William gets the “last laugh” by staying in Britain and raising his kids close to the royal family. She said, “William watches his younger brother drag his family back across the Atlantic.

Wright stated that Harry is “Adopting the exact lifestyle and educational path he once fled, the irony couldn’t be richer.” Wright added, “And yet, William doesn’t need to say a single word. By simply standing firm while the Sussexes’ American dream folded in on itself, William gets the undisputed last laugh.”

Speaking to British GQ’s Zach Baron in an interview released on October 20, Harry said Archie and Lilibet had been attending school for two weeks. “Being able to put the kids in a British school has meant a lot to me,” Harry said. “I didn’t know how important it was to me.”

Harry also explained why he wants his children to experience life in both Britain and the United States. “But I think for kids at seven and five to be able to have that comparison and to have two completely different cultural experiences is so important today,” he said.

Harry continued, “It’s been nice to be close to friends, family, friends of friends and their children as well, to be able to have endless playdates to really, like, help our kids settle in.” According to Wright, the Duke’s words contradict his decision to leave royal life in 2020.

He and Markle moved to California that year. In 2021, they spoke about their royal family experience in an interview with Oprah Winfrey. Harry later shared his side of the story in his 2023 memoir, Spare. Singer Joss Stone also chatted with Harry about British schools and community.

They met at the WellChild Awards in London in September 2025. Stone had recently moved back to Britain with her family after living in the U.S. She later told Hello! magazine that Harry asked how they were settling in.

“He was saying how wonderful the schools are here and how important community is for children,” Stone said. Stone also admitted she wanted her kids to grow up around family and friends. She also wondered if Harry would ever move back to Britain. In August 2026, he did return with Markle and their kids.

It has also drawn comparisons with his older brother, William. The Prince of Wales still lives in Britain with Kate Middleton and their three kids. Prince George has started at Eton, while Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are still at Lambrook.

William, meanwhile, continues his royal duties as heir to the throne. Harry also spoke about his strained relationship with his father, King Charles III, and William in the same interview. He said he wanted to repair those family ties. “Some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out,” Harry said.

He added, “With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile. That’s the key point.” A spokesperson for the Sussexes later said Harry’s comments weren’t aimed at William or any other family member.
