Meghan Markle has stayed away from official U.K. events since returning to Britain. Royal reporter Paula Froelich thinks, “She’s too scared. She’s hiding at home.” According to the Express, Froelich commented while discussing Markle’s low profile with commentator Mark Dolan. 

Dolan also questioned the Sussexes’ approach to privacy. Prince Harry and Markle have wanted people to avoid knowing where they live. Yet she has posted several glimpses of their U.K. life on Instagram. 

“It’s a bit ironic that that’s what Meghan has done with multiple Instagram photos, effectively doxing herself,” Dolan said. He added, “What’s she hiding from?” Froelich replied, “I think she’s trying to prove a point that she’s just too scared to come out.”

The royal reporter had another take on it. She said Harry and Markle are keeping their personal and work lives separate. Froelich said she understood why they might do that. Still, she felt the setup “serves” Markle. In her view, it helps make the point that going out in public is dangerous for her. 

Markle has not completely disappeared from public view, though. On September 21, she was photographed at the Three Horseshoes pub near Burford, Oxfordshire. The Duchess was there with Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. 

Markle sported white pants, a light blue shirt, white shoes, and sunglasses. She and DeGeneres have been friends for years. They were also neighbors in Montecito before DeGeneres and de Rossi moved to the Cotswolds in 2024. 

The outing marked her first photographed appearance in Britain since the family returned on August 26. Markle had reportedly been seen at Soho Farmhouse earlier in September. Since then, she has been sharing glimpses of her life online. 

On September 13, she posted a clip on Instagram. It featured Harry, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet. The family was seen enjoying some time outdoors. The video was set to Wham!’s Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go. Markle also added a Union Jack and a red heart emoji to the post. 

Harry, meanwhile, attended the Invictus Spirit Gala in London on September 17. He also went to the WellChild Awards on September 21. Markle did not join him at either event. On September 23, Harry attended the Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting. 

Later that day, he appeared at the Skift Global Forum. Harry also attended a National Geographic and De Beers event linked to Botswana’s Okavango region. He later made a surprise public appearance at the Diana Award panel for young people. 

Separately, Markle’s friend Kelly McKee Zajfen visited the Sussexes with her six-month-old son, Jack. She later shared snaps from the trip on Instagram on September 23. One photo showed the Suits alum holding Jack during a pub visit. 

Another showed Harry playing with the baby on the floor. Zajfen also shared a picture of herself with Markle and Marcus Anderson playing mahjong outside. Zajfen has known Markle for nearly 20 years. She also appeared in Markle’s Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.
