Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left some Nottingham fans disappointed after lunch. They hoped the couple would return to greet them, but they didn’t. Speaking to the Daily Express, resident Jonathan Sharland, 67, shared the crowd’s frustration.

“Myself, plus the rest of the crowd, were very disappointed that after their lunch they did not come out to speak to some of us, a wave, they missed the bouquets of flowers,” Sharland said.

“I was waiting for quite a long time from 12pm, but I was happy to see them when they did arrive,” Sharland added. “I expected them to come back out again, but they [just left]. I’d never seen them before.”

Harry and Markle visited Nottingham on Thursday, October 15. It was their first joint public appearance in Britain since returning in August 2026. The couple started their day at the Community Recording Studio (CRS) in St. Ann’s. They arrived in a dark-colored Range Rover and greeted supporters outside.

The Sussexes hugged fans, shook hands, and posed for selfies. One woman shouted,  “We love you, Duchess Meghan, we love you.” Markle told someone, “Oh, it’s great to be back.” Harry spoke to a child and complimented a woman’s bright pink jacket.

Markle also kissed an older woman on the cheek after receiving a gift. At CRS, Harry and Markle met young people taking part in creative activities. Markle joined a bracelet-making workshop and spoke about Princess Lilibet’s love of gymnastics.

When a young girl mentioned it, Markle replied, “Oh yeah. Our daughter is doing that too right now. She loves it.” Next, the two stopped by Himmah Hub. They took part in food-related activities and met women linked to the Hubb Community Kitchen.

Markle supported the community cooks after the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017. Her work with the women led to the 2018 cookbook Together: Our Community Cookbook. The couple then headed to Epic Partners in Sneinton. Meanwhile, Nottingham is also a special place for Harry and Markle.

It’s where they made their first public appearance together in December 2017, shortly after announcing their engagement. Nearly nine years later, they were back in the same city. The couple stepped back from their senior royal roles in 2020. This time, they returned as private citizens rather than working royals.

Lately, Harry has been attending several events on his own, without Markle. On September 17, he attended the Invictus Spirit Gala Dinner and Awards at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London. The next day, he headed to Birmingham to launch the Invictus education program, INSPIRE, at Ninestiles School.

On September 21, the Duke attended the WellChild Awards in London. He then traveled to New York, where he appeared at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting and the Skift Global Forum on September 23. He also attended an event celebrating conservation work in Botswana and a Diana Award event focused on young people in the workplace.

Markle wasn’t with him at any of these events. She was last seen with Harry at The Falkland Arms pub in Great Tew, Oxfordshire, on October 1. The couple was photographed holding hands as they arrived.
