Still, Brand seems to think he has the right to approve or disapprove of the “Dark Horse” singer’s romantic endeavors. He just revealed that he feels personally offended that Perry is dating Justin Trudeau.

Katy Perry is seemingly happy in her relationship with Justin Trudeau. The romance started shortly after she split from Orlando Bloom, and while sources claim she didn’t expect things to get serious so quickly, the pair really enjoys spending time together. Perry’s fans are thrilled for her, but one person is not. Russell Brand, Katy Perry’s ex-husband, recently appeared at a Turning Point USA event and felt the need to comment on Perry’s love life.

According to E! News, Brand called Trudeau a “globalist stooge” and insisted he didn’t want to be in the same “category” as Trudeau. He claimed he was “okay” with Perry being with Bloom, but took issue with the politician. He then claimed Perry’s mother was in attendance at the event, although it’s unclear if that was true. Perry’s fans were quick to question why Brand, who hasn’t been married to Perry in more than a decade, thought anyone was interested in his opinion on her love life. He is being dragged on social media for the comments.

Brand’s commentary left people wondering why he has any feelings about who his ex is dating at all. After all, it has been many years since they were last together. Their relationship, as a whole, wasn’t all that long-lasting, despite them being married.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry met in 2009 at the Video Music Awards. They went public with their romance towards the end of 2009 and announced their engagement before the year was up. In October 2010, they wed in Rajasthan, India. Brand also proposed during a trip to India. Conflicting lifestyles and scheduling conflicts put a strain on the relationship pretty quickly. By 2011, there were murmurings of trouble between the newlyweds. On December 30, 2011, almost exactly two years after announcing their engagement, Russell Brand filed for divorce.
