Sabrina Carpenter Fell on a Cactus While Shooting Her Grammy-Nominated Music Video
Sabrina Carpenter recently received a Grammy nomination for her “Manchild” music video from her Man’s Best Friend album. The singer said that the reaction to the video has warmed her heart, because it was her most ambitious to date. She also had to endure some pain to get through it. Carpenter said that on one of the filming days, she fell on a cactus.
Sabrina Carpenter said she suffered an injury while shooting a music video
Carpenter filmed the “Manchild” music video on a ranch in California. While shooting, she fell onto a cactus, which she said was funny, at least at first.
“I fell on a cactus,” she said in an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “It’s so easy to laugh when people get hurt. And I did. But then I started crying.”
They had to pause the shoot so she could get all the needles removed from her body.
“There was a medic. I just for the rest of the day was picking s*** out of…,” she said, trailing off.
Sabrina Carpenter said she loved shooting the music video
While falling on a cactus wasn’t pleasant, Carpenter said she enjoyed the rest of the shoot. They initially shot for two days, but she pushed for a third.
“Well, so it took two at first,” she said. “And then I watched the edit, and I was like, ‘It’s not crazy enough yet,’ and it was already pretty crazy. So we went back and shot a third day.”
The scale of the video was bigger than anything she’d ever done, and she feels grateful to everyone who helped make it.
“I’ll be honest, that shoot was so ambitious. We shot 37 outfits,” she said. “That was probably my biggest shoot I’ve ever done. I’m so grateful to be able to make that production of my dreams. But it was definitely… We endured a lot of pain to get the finished product.”
Because of how important the video is to her, Carpenter said that the public reaction has moved her. She’s glad people like it as much as she does.
“I really like that because I think — I make pop music and sometimes you don’t expect to see those visuals in a song like that,” she said. “So that one means a lot to me. I’m very excited that everyone has liked the video.”
She is up for six Grammys for her latest album, ‘Man’s Best Friend’
Her nomination for Best Music Video is only one of many she received for the 2026 Grammy Awards. Carpenter also received nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
In 2025, Carpenter won her first two Grammys for her album Short n’ Sweet. She took home the prize for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album. Fans are already anticipating her taking home more Grammys at the upcoming ceremony.
