Sabrina Carpenter Said Her New Album Is a ‘Celebration of Disappointment’ Amid Rumors It’s About Barry Keoghan
Sabrina Carpenter released her latest album, Man’s Best Friend, on Aug. 29. Fans speculated that her last album, Short n’ Sweet, featured songs about then-boyfriend, Barry Keoghan. Now that the couple has split, fans are wondering if any of the breakup songs are about him. While Carpenter has remained quiet on the inspiration behind her songs, she did call it a “celebration of disappointment.”
Sabrina Carpenter released her new album, ‘Man’s Best Friend’
After roughly a year of a reportedly on-and-off relationship, Carpenter and Keoghan called it quits for good in December 2024. When she announced her newest album, Man’s Best Friend, in June, many fans prepared for songs about the Irish actor.
The album does have many songs about a romance gone cold; “We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night” is about an on-and-off romance, leading many to believe it’s about Keoghan. She also sings about drunk calling exes in “Go Go Juice.”
“I’m just drinking to call someone / Ain’t nobody safe when I’m a little bit drunk / Could be John or Larry, gosh, who’s to say? /Or the one that rhymes with ‘villain’ if I’m feelin’ that way.”
Larry, of course, rhymes with Barry, fueling speculation. Carpenter said she will not confirm or deny rumors, though. Instead, she called it an album about heartbreak and disappointment and left it at that.
“It’s a real party for heartbreak, a celebration of disappointment! It’s laughing at yourself and your poor choices as everything is falling apart, it’s wondering how loyalty and love always gets you back to third wheeling, spoken sarcastically like a true 25 year old !” she wrote on Instagram.
Now that the album is out, fans can try to uncover the inspiration behind the songs.
