Where Is Sarah Ferguson’s $90,000 Engagement Ring Now?
Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson‘s names have been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons lately.
On Oct. 17, amid pressure from the public as well as from other members of the royal family, Prince Andrew relinquished his Duke of York title. The decision meant that his former wife would no longer be able to use her Duchess of York title. Some found it rather peculiar that Sarah had still used the title given that she and Andrew divorced back in 1996. But the two have always remained close over the years and even live together today.
Something else she did not have to give up in her divorce settlement was the engagement ring the prince gave her. Therefore, it’s believed that the ring is still in her possession today, but she doesn’t wear it for obvious reasons.
The diamond experts at the U.K. jewelry retailer Steven Stone took a look at past photos and videos of Fergie’s dazzling ring and revealed several details about the sparkler.
Maxwell Stone told Showbiz Cheat Sheet: “Sarah’s engagement ring features a striking 3-carat Burmese ruby surrounded by ten sparkling diamonds, arranged in a floral design known as a cluster setting. The precious stones are set on a yellow gold band, creating a vivid and eye-catching contrast of colour.
“In their engagement interview, Prince Andrew revealed that the ruby was chosen because both he and Sarah felt red was the perfect colour for her, while the “extra bits on the outside” reflected their shared wish for something a little unconventional.
The expert added, “The exquisite piece is believed to have been crafted by the renowned British jeweller Garrard – the same house behind Princess Diana’s iconic sapphire engagement ring and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh’s dazzling design. It’s thought that Princess Eugenie drew inspiration from her mother’s ring when choosing her own. Rather than opting for a traditional diamond, she received a Padparadscha sapphire from Jack Brooksbank, encircled by ten brilliant-cut diamonds and two pear-cut diamonds.
“At the time, Sarah’s ring was reported to have cost around $33,000. However, with inflation and its royal provenance, its value is now likely to be in the region of $90,000.”
