Sarah Jessica Parker Said She Liked That Carrie Bradshaw Often Fell Short
Renewed interest in Sex and the City, thanks to its reboot and the original series landing on Max, has led to renewed criticism. While fans have always been highly critical of Carrie Bradshaw’s choices, those voices are much louder now. Since the reboot launched in 2021, fans have been going off on Carrie on social media, bemoaning her life choices. Sarah Jessica Parker, who has spent decades walking in Carrie Bradshaw’s Manolo Blahniks, doesn’t agree with all the frustration. In fact, she loves how imperfect Carrie is. She’s enjoyed portraying a character who often falls short.
Sarah Jessica Parker likes Carrie Bradshaw’s imperfections
Sarah Jessica Parker is used to people having an opinion on her work. After more than 25 years, she’s heard all there is to hear about Carrie Bradshaw. The actor has accepted all of the criticism. She even understands why some fans are frustrated by Carrie’s choices. Still, she contends, that is her favorite part of the character.
Sarah Jessica Parker opened up about Carrie Bradshaw during a recent appearance on Call Her Daddy. She revealed what it has been like playing the role and even chatted about her favorite aspects of the beloved sex columnist. Parker said she actually loves that Carrie Bradshaw often falls short of her goals. She said she enjoyed the imperfect nature of the character and liked that she was frequently shown “falling short of being the best friend or the best girlfriend or her best self.”
The actor, who was initially leery of portraying the character
Sarah Jessica Parker has had a long and illustrious career thus far. She’s played everything from a flighty witch to a secret interventionist to a beleaguered divorcee. Still, her most iconic role has been that of Carrie Bradshaw. It’s a role that almost didn’t go to her. While HBO was sold on Parker, she wasn’t so sure about taking the job.

Parker loved the script, but she wasn’t sure she wanted to commit to a television series at that point in her career. In various interviews, she’s admitted she was hesitant about the long-term nature of a TV contract and feared it might limit her opportunities moving forward.
In a 2018 conversation with People, Parker explained: “I was flattered, but I wasn’t looking to do a series. I was more focused on doing films and Broadway.” The show’s sexual content and how it might impact her career prospects also gave her pause.
Ultimately, she was won over by the script but required a few contract negotiations to agree to appear. Namely, she refused to appear nude, despite the show’s provocative nature. It’s a clause she maintains even today.
