Sarah Jessica Parker Says She Shares 1 Food Preference With ‘Sex and the City’ Icon, Carrie Bradshaw
Sarah Jessica Parker spent more than two decades portraying Carrie Bradshaw. In the last three years, she and other actors who reprised their roles in the Sex and the City reboot have been accused of injecting too much of themselves into their iconic characters. Parker doesn’t think she’s done that with Carrie. She insists she is very different from the New York City resident she portrayed. Still, she concedes that she does have one thing in common with the fictional sex columnist, aside from a love affair with Manhattan. Parker and Carrie Bradshaw share the same food ick. They both despise parsley.
Sarah Jessica Parker and Carrie Bradshaw have a food ick in common
Sarah Jessica Parker has closed the door on playing Carrie Bradshaw. With the end of the reboot, she bid adieu to Carrie. While she won’t be portraying the sex columnist any longer, she’s still very much willing to talk about her, and the cultural significance of Sex and the City and And Just Like That… According to People, Parker revealed that she, much like her beloved character, hates parsley and actively avoids it. She said she can say “no parsley” in multiple languages just to ensure her food isn’t ruined by the offending herb. Her recent admission, made on Threads, isn’t the first time she’s referenced her distaste for the garnish. In 2014, she told Vogue it was her least favorite food.
While food was often featured on Sex and the City, it was rarely discussed in depth. Parsley, however, was the catalyst for an argument. Carrie famously informed a server that she was “allergic” to parsley when she was not, because she hated the herb so much in one season six episode. The decision bothered her then-boyfriend, Jack Berger, so much that they had a bickering match over the herb.
Was the parsley storyline borrowed from Sarah Jessica Parker’s life?
It is a well-known fact that Sex and the City writers often drew inspiration from moments in their own lives or those of their friends to inform storylines. The Post-It note breakup, for example, was inspired by a very real and very traumatizing moment. Smith Jerrod’s character was inspired by a real person. Even Charlotte York’s terrible kisser was based on a real story. So, was Carrie and Berger’s parsley showdown real?

Sarah Jessica Parker did not reveal if anyone had ever tried to call her on her parsley hate, or if she claims to be allergic just to ensure her food comes out of the kitchen parsley-free. Her hatred for the herb, however, did inspire the scene. There are no more scenes to come. Still, fans can relive the parsley debate in all its glory on HBO Max.
