Sarah Jessica Parker’s Farewell to Carrie Bradshaw Breaks ‘Sex and the City’ Fans’ Hearts
It is the end of an era for HBO fans. While there are two episodes left in season 3 of And Just Like That…, fans have learned there won’t be any more. Michael Patrick King penned a letter informing fans that the show was coming to a close. Viewers aren’t buying his version of events, but the cast and crew’s tributes to the series are hitting just right. Sarah Jessica Parker’s ode to Carrie Bradshaw was particularly heartbreaking following the cancellation news. Fans are feeling the cancellation after reading the cast’s words.
Sarah Jessica Parker pens a heartfelt love letter to Carrie Bradshaw
Sarah Jessica Parker has played many roles in her long acting career, but like many actors, she feels a special connection to one part; Parker has bonded with Carrie Bradshaw after playing her on and off for decades. Because of that, the end of And Just Like That… has hit Parker hard, but her Instagram farewell is everything fans needed to see.
Following the official cancellation of And Just Like That…, Sarah Jessica Parker took to Instagram to post an emotional farewell to Carrie Bradshaw. In a heartfelt message shared on August 2, 2025, Parker posted a carousel of various photos from her years portraying the iconic character. In the caption, she wrote, “Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all.” Parker also acknowledged the deep love fans have for the character. She continued, “ I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt. To you all.”
The Instagram post quickly went viral, with fans discussing the connection they felt to the beloved character and bemoaning the end of their journey. Fans, though largely critical of the reboot, are still feeling a sense of loss as they bid farewell to Carrie, likely for the very last time. Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis both penned heartfelt farewells, as well. Nixon shared a carousel of photos from her time on the set. Davis, who appears to be more shocked at the cancellation than her co-stars, has simply shared Michael Patrick King’s note to her own feed and expressed her sadness at leaving the show behind.
Why was ‘And Just Like That…’ canceled after three seasons?
On August 1, 2025, the official end of And Just Like That… was announced. The goal of the reboot was to bring beloved characters Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York back to life for a modern reimagining of their lives in New York City. The series, developed by Michael Patrick King, ran for three seasons beginning in December 2021. Though it initially generated significant buzz, it experienced several hiccups and mixed reviews.

Fans found season one’s subject matter, revolving almost entirely around the death of Mr. Big in season 1, too heavy when compared to the uniquely light and airy original. The addition of characters like Che Diaz and the absence of Samantha Jones was a pain point, as well. Season 2 found its footing but suffered from a drop in viewership and choppy storytelling. Season 3 felt closer to the original than ever before, but it failed to recapture the interest of the original fan base.
While Michael Patrick King penned a long Instagram note claiming that he had made the decision to end the series after three seasons, fans are not buying his claim. The farewell posts by the stars, as well as the show’s difficulties and high budget, have led fans to assume HBO Max canceled the series to save budget. We may never know the real answer, though.
The series will conclude with a two-part finale airing on August 7 and August 14. Then, fans, Sarah Jessica Parker, and the rest of the cast will bid farewell to Carrie Bradshaw and her pals.
