Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been missing since her assumed abduction on February 1. As more time passes, the fear that Nancy will not be found grows. Savannah, a Today co-host, recently sat down to discuss the immediate aftermath of the octogenerian’s disappearance. She also shared her early thoughts on the situation. Guthrie revealed that she’s been carrying a lot of guilt. She still fears that her fame has made her mother a target.

Savannah Guthrie opens up about missing mom during ‘Today’ interview

Savannah Guthrie opened up for the first time about her mother’s disappearance in a sit-down interview with Hoda Kotb. Guthrie, who took a leave from Today immediately after learning of her mother’s abduction, is slowly returning to New York, but her thoughts remain in Arizona. During her Today interview, Guthrie revealed that she is carrying a great deal of guilt about Nancy Guthrie’s abduction.

The famed co-host revealed that she immediately wondered if her status as a reporter and well-known anchor might have painted a target on her mother’s back. She theorized that perhaps the person responsible for her mother’s abduction believed the family had money and therefore would be easy targets. She even floated the idea past her brother, Cameron Guthrie. He confirmed that he suspected the same.

Money would seem to have been a motivating factor early on. Just days after the octogenarian’s disappearance, ransom letters were delivered to several news stations. The author demanded Bitcoin in return for Nancy’s safe return. A number of other letters have been delivered during the harrowing ordeal, though their validity has been questioned. Savannah, however, remains confident that the first two notes might have been legitimate. Still, Nancy remains missing, and the person responsible is still at large.

Investigators are still searching for leads in Nancy Guthrie’s abduction

Savannah Guthrie might still be wondering if her fame brought tragedy to her family. Still, investigators looking into Nancy Guthrie’s abduction probably already know the answer. While the team looking into the elder Guthrie’s disappearance has not named a suspect yet, there are reasons to believe that the investigation is moving in the right direction.

Two weeks ago, Sherrif Chris Nanos warned residents that the person or persons responsible for Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance could strike again. He also suggested that investigators believed that they may understand the motivation behind the abduction. He called the crime “targeted.” Still, he chose not to elaborate further. It could be some time before the public learns whether the younger Guthrie’s status as a celebrity led the assailant or assailants to target Nancy.
