Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, has now been missing for 48 hours. Each passing hour makes it less likely that the 84-year-old will be found in good health. On February 1, reports began to surface that the Today co-host’s mother had gone missing from her home in the Catalina Foothills in Arizona. Initial reports did not indicate whether she walked off on her own or was the victim of a crime. Savannah opted to take a leave of absence from Today while the search is ongoing. Now, things are looking more dire than ever. Homicide detectives have been on the scene.

Police are underscoring the importance of locating Nancy. They note that it is clear the 84-year-old did not wander away from her home. Police announced that while Nancy is on medication and has limited mobility, she is of sound cognitive ability, and they were never under the notion that she had wandered off by herself. The scene gave that away.

According to Today, police are now clarifying that they strongly suspect Nancy Guthrie was the victim of a crime and was taken from her Arizona home against her will. During a press conference, they revealed that evidence inside the property points in that direction, too. They also believe the octogenarian was injured during whatever struggle occurred. They opted not to elaborate further on why they believe that to be the case, or how badly she may have been injured. Things, however, aren’t looking good. Homicide detectives have been involved in the case, which is atypical. The crime scene seems to indicate something very bad happened inside the home.

Nancy Guthrie was last in contact with family on the evening of January 31, around 9:00pm. The family was alerted that something was amiss when Nancy failed to show up for a planned event. She was living independently at the time of her disappearance. She, however, had staff with whom she was in regular contact. Staff members have spoken with the police.
