Scheana Shay Admitted She Was Selfish in Her Handling of Her Eddie Cibrian Affair: ‘I Was Only Thinking About Me’
The fallout of Scheana Shay and Eddie Cibrian’s affair kicked off the first episode of Vanderpump Rules. Shay faced backlash from her castmates for it, and she repeatedly told them that she didn’t know he was married. While she still says she didn’t know about his home life, she does have regrets about the affair. Here’s what she wishes she had done differently.
Scheana Shay said she has regrets about her affair with Eddie Cibrian
When Shay and Cibrian began their affair, he was married to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Brandi Glanville. She was pregnant with their child. While Shay insists she did not know about Glanville at first, she did eventually find out about her. Shay talked to the media about her affair with Cibrian, which she said she has come to regret.
“There are many things I wish I could change,” she told Us Weekly. “I don’t like to have regrets in life, but one thing I do regret was opening up to the media about Eddie. … I wasn’t thinking about his wife and toddlers at home.”
She said she wasn’t thinking about the way the pain of a public affair would impact Glanville and her children. Shay is now going through a similar experience after revealing her husband, Brock Davies, cheated on her while she was pregnant.
“People like to say that I make everything about me — this was an instance where I was only thinking about myself in that situation and that was not OK,” she said. “It was extremely immature and extremely irresponsible. I am so sorry to Brandi for her having to find out about me the way she did. She didn’t deserve that. And lo and behold, look what my husband did to me.”
Scheana Shay said she thinks Eddie Cibrian deserves more blame than her
While Shay regrets talking to the media, she doesn’t think she deserves such a burden of blame for the affair. She believes people should be angrier with Cibrian.
“I have worn this scarlet letter for so long. I’m this ‘home-wrecking whore’ every day in the comments,” she said, noting, “He’s the one who lied. He is the one who cheated. He is the home-wrecker.”
She thinks people are critical of her because she faced the fallout of the affair in the early seasons of Vanderpump Rules. In reality, it happened several years before the show premiered.
“I don’t want to say I was innocent, but … I was lied to by a 33-year-old man when I was 21, fresh out of college,” she said, adding, “I feel like people tend to forget that. They see 27-year-old Scheana on season 1 of Vanderpump Rules, and it’s as if the Eddie situation happened the year before. This happened in 2006. We weren’t on air until 2013.”
She revealed multiple other celebrity flings in her book
As Shay revealed in her memoir, My Good Side, Cibrian was far from the only celebrity with whom she had a brief fling. She claims to have been involved with at least ten male celebrities.
“I said to myself, okay Scheana, you’ve tried dating (or at least hanging out and hooking up with) all of these celebrities — Jesse Metcalfe, Eddie Cibrian, John Mayer, Shemar Moore, Josh Hopkins, Shane West, Jesse McCartney, JC Chasez, Adrian Grenier, Ricardo Chavira, William Tell, two actors from The Notebook, and a few NFL, NBA, and MLB players, to name a few — and that’s not really working out,” she wrote. “It’s time to switch things up and date someone who’s under the radar: I didn’t want any of the fanfare or complications that came with being linked to someone famous. I wanted to be with someone who was grounded.”
She has gone on to marry two normal, non-famous people.
