Scheana Shay Said Her Relationship With John Mayer Featured Lots of Phone Sex
In Scheana Shay’s newly released memoir, My Good Side, she revealed she had a brief relationship with singer John Mayer. Shay said the pair were briefly involved in 2008, long before the first episode of Vanderpump Rules aired. While she said she wanted to keep some parts of their relationship private, she did note that Mayer liked having phone sex.
Scheana Shay gave some insight into her relationship with John Mayer
According to Shay, she met Mayer in 2008, while she was working at his birthday party. He was in an on-and-off relationship with Jennifer Aniston at the time, and she was involved with actor Eddie Cibrian. Shay said she was very into Mayer despite not fully aligning with some of his preferences.
In My Good Side, she noted that they talked on the phone “a fair amount” because he seemed “really into phone sex.”
“[It] was a first for me and a little awkward, but I was willing to do whatever he wanted,” she wrote.
She said their relationship ended after one of her friends spoke to the press about it.
“Once it was public, he didn’t want to speak to me or see me anymore,” she wrote.
John Mayer denied having a relationship with Scheana Shay
Shay said she withheld some information about her affair in the book out of respect for Mayer.
“I know him and Andy Cohen are very good friends, and I’m not trying to burn any bridges with this book,” she told People. “I’m just trying to tell my truth and tell enough of it to give context.”
Despite this, Mayer is still likely not pleased. In a 2024 episode of Vanderpump Rules, Shay hinted that she had a threesome with Mayer. Sources say Mayer has denied ever being involved with her, though.
“John has told several people close to him that he never hooked up with Scheana,” a source told the U.S. Sun. “He knows that she has been telling people they hooked up well before the Vanderpump Rules episode aired and it’s gotten back to him. He’s very annoyed by the entire thing and wants nothing to do with her.”
The source added that Mayer tried to avoid Shay after seeing her at a party.
She said she was involved with a number of other celebrities
Mayer is not the only celebrity fling Shay uncovered in her book. She said she was with multiple famous names in her early 20s.
“I said to myself, okay Scheana, you’ve tried dating (or at least hanging out and hooking up with) all of these celebrities — Jesse Metcalfe, Eddie Cibrian, John Mayer, Shemar Moore, Josh Hopkins, Shane West, Jesse McCartney, JC Chasez, Adrian Grenier, Ricardo Chavira, William Tell, two actors from The Notebook, and a few NFL, NBA, and MLB players, to name a few — and that’s not really working out,” she wrote. “It’s time to switch things up and date someone who’s under the radar: I didn’t want any of the fanfare or complications that came with being linked to someone famous. I wanted to be with someone who was grounded.”
Shay is now married to Brock Davies.
