Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ defense team had a massive win in court
On Wednesday, July 2, the jury in Combs’ trial returned with a verdict after three days of deliberations. Just one day before, they indicated that they were struggling to reach a unanimous decision on the racketeering charge. As they’d only been deliberating a short time, Judge Arun Subramanian instructed them to continue efforts to reach a consensus.
One day later, they did. The jury found that Combs was not guilty of racketeering conspiracy or sex trafficking. They convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. While Combs still faces two charges, this was a major win for the defense. His charges carry a maximum of ten years in prison, but he avoided the more serious charges. If the jury found him guilty of those, he faced a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Combs dropped to his knees after hearing the verdict, and his family members cheered. His attorneys also celebrated. According to NBC News correspondent Chloe Melas, attorney Teny Geragos wiped away tears of joy.
Combs will face sentencing for his two charges at a later date.
