Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Lawyer Said the Mogul’s Relationship With Cassie Ventura Was a ‘Great Modern Love Story’ Despite Her Allegations Against Him

Cassie Ventura’s lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs was instrumental in turning public opinion against him. She was also the star witness for the prosecution in his trial this summer. Ventura’s testimony was harrowing and the jurors found her to be a credible witness. Despite the allegations she has made against Combs, his lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, said the former couple had a “modern love story.”

Combs and Ventura were first linked romantically in 2007. They dated on and off for the next decade, finally calling things off for good in 2018. In 2023, Ventura filed a lawsuit against Combs, accusing him of rape and abuse. 

“After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships,” she said, per Business Insider. “With the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act fast approaching, it became clear that this was an opportunity to speak up about the trauma I have experienced and that I will be recovering from for the rest of my life.”

During her testimony at his trial, Ventura alleged that Combs perpetuated a cycle of violence and abuse against her. Still, Combs’ lawyer described their relationship as a modern love story.

“In terms of the, you know, the drugs and the other stuff … that’s what makes it a modern love story,” he told CBS News, adding, “I think they really did love each other. I think she very much loved him and I know he very much loved her. I mean, these are two people who hurt each other, loved each other, cheated on each other.”

Ventura went on to marry Alex Fine in 2019.
