After roughly a year in jail, Sean “Diddy” Combs received his prison sentence. Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs to 50 months in prison. Combs’ lawyers have criticized this ruling. The attorney for Combs’ son, Justin Combs, has also spoken out about it. He said that Combs will serve his sentence at one of the country’s worst prisons.

Justin Combs’ lawyer said Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs served in a bad prison

Jeffrey Lichtman, Justin Combs’ criminal defense attorney, said that he didn’t think a sentence of 50 months was overly excessive. Combs was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.

“Today’s dog and pony show — while interesting and funny at times — didn’t move the judge at all, as he surely had in his mind before he came onto the bench today that he was giving Combs 50 months,” he told The Hill. “Not a horrible sentence at all, but time served was never a realistic prospect.”

Still, he didn’t think Combs deserved to spend so much time behind bars, particularly at a notorious facility.

“At the end of the day, as bad as Combs’ behavior was, it never was clear what federal laws he violated, if any,” he said. “And 50 months in jail, a lot of it in one of the worst prisons in America, is a really serious punishment.”

Lichtman did not clarify which prison he was referring to. It’s likely he meant the Metropolitan Detention Center, where Combs awaited trial.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ lawyers want him to serve time at a different prison

Combs’ lawyers are currently pushing for him to serve out his sentence at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security facility. In a letter to Subramanian, they argued that this would be the best place for him.

“On behalf of Mr. Combs, we respectfully request that the Court strongly recommend a designation facility to the Bureau of Prisons in Mr. Combs’ Judgment,” wrote his attorney, Teny Geragos, per Deadline. “In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs.”

While Subramanian can make recommendations about where inmates should serve out their sentences, the decision is ultimately up to the Bureau of Prisons.

He is reportedly trying to avoid time behind bars

Combs and his defense team have still not given up hope that he might avoid prison time. Donald Trump said Combs has asked him for a presidential pardon.

“A lot of people have asked me for pardons,” he said. “I call him Puff Daddy. He has asked me for a pardon.”

According to a source, the discussions about a potential pardon are still ongoing.

“The conversation is ongoing, for what it’s worth right now,” they said. “It’s not dead, it’s not happening yet, it’s still under discussion.”
