Sebastian Telfair made it home for the holidays. The former NBA star walked out of federal prison days before Christmas. Now, another famous Fort Dix inmate is also looking to get out of jail ASAP. As Telfair was getting ready to be released, Diddy was launching yet another attempt to get out of jail early. This is where his appeal stands.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs wants his conviction overturned, and he’s trying everything

While Diddy’s prisonmate is officially out of jail, he’s still sitting inside the walls of Fort Dix. He’s hoping that will change with his latest appeal. In his latest filing, Diddy’s legal team accuses Judge Arun Subramanian of wrongdoing. In the paperwork obtained by Page Six, Diddy’s lawyer argues that Subramanian imposed a heavy sentence based on evidence that they believe was inadmissible for his actual convictions. They are asking the court to overturn the conviction and release the disgraced music mogul immediately on the grounds that the sentence was unlawful.

The appeal goes on to accuse Subramanian of acting as a “13th juror” and imposing a “draconian” sentence based on a desire to punish the defendant. The paperwork attempts to compare Diddy with other defendants convicted on similar counts. As of press time, Diddy is set to be released from Fort Dix on May 25, 2028. While convicted of two Mann Act violations, Diddy was acquitted on sex trafficking and racketeering charges that could have landed him behind bars for decades. He has been in custody since September 2024.

When was Sebastian Telfair released?

While Diddy is still fighting to have his sentence changed, Sebastian Telfair walked out of Fort Dix a free man. Telfair, 40, made headlines just a couple of months ago when he was photographed chatting with Diddy in the prison yard. He served a six-month federal prison stint for failing to meet the terms of his probation.

Telfair, a former NBA star, pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud charges back in 2023. At the time, he was sentenced to probation but failed to meet the terms, including completing community service. Telfair was ordered to report to federal prison in August 2025. He arrived at FCI Fort Dix about two months before Diddy was transferred from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to the facility. Telfair was released from custody on December 23.
