‘Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’: Zac Affleck Says He Was Tricked Into Having More Kids
Zac and Jen Affleck’s marriage dynamic has gotten more than a few side eyes from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives fans. Followers are confident that their arguments, brief split, and toxic interactions don’t bode well for their long-term success as a couple. A recent podcast appearance hasn’t made fans feel any better about the couple’s dynamic. Zac recently revealed that Jen Affleck’s second pregnancy blindsided him because she failed to update him on their family planning strategy.
Zac Affleck said Jen didn’t tell him that she had her IUD removed
In a candid appearance on The Viall Files podcast on May 28, Zac revealed that he felt “tricked” into having their second child, claiming Jen removed her birth control without his knowledge. She never mentioned having an IUD removed.
“We had one and then a second baby back to back,” Zac explained. “Jen—like, six months after she gave birth, she got pregnant again with her second baby. I got tricked into it. She took out her IUD without telling me.” Jen, for her part, didn’t deny the allegations. Instead, she coyly offered a “whoopsie” regarding the situation.
IUDs, or intrauterine devices, are a highly effective form of birth control. A small copper or hormonal device is placed inside the uterus by a doctor. It prevents pregnancy for between 3 and 10 years, depending on the type and manufacturer of the device. In Jen’s case, the IUD was likely placed during a postpartum wellness visit. She likely only had the device for a few months, if at all, before having it removed.
The admission has many followers concerned for the couple’s well-being. Several social media followers noted that what Zac describes can be considered reproductive coercion.
How many children do they have?
Despite a somewhat rocky relationship, Jen Affleck and Zac Affleck continue to expand their family. They are currently parents to two children and are awaiting the arrival of their third. Together, they welcomed their first child, Nora, in November 2021, followed by their son, Lucas, in July 2023. Jen and Zac announced their third pregnancy in February. Jen told People that baby #3 was a surprise, but one that both she and Zac felt was right for their family. On May 23, Affleck announced via Instagram that she was 34 weeks pregnant. She is due in early July.
Zac and Jen Affleck met in 2018 on a dating app specifically for Mormon singles. Their romance developed quickly, and they were married in 2019. Jen was just 18 when they met. Zac, who has paused plans to attend medical school, was 22. Zac signed up for the dating app because he was looking for someone “spicy” after returning from a religious mission. They dated for just a few months before Jen pushed the idea of marriage, claimed Zac.
