Why Were Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid Reportedly Feuding for Years?
There were a few headlines that came out of the 2025 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show that took place on Oct. 15 in New York City. The big featured former VS Angels Candice Swanepoel, Adriana Lima, Lily Aldridge, Behati Prinsloo, Alessandra Ambrosio, along with athletes Angel Reese and Suni Lee, and models Joan Smalls, Emily Ratajkowski, and Yasmin Wijnaldum.
In a heartwarming moment, Dylan Sprouse’s wife, Barbara Palvin, took part in the show after undergoing surgery for endometriosis.
Another storyline had fans wondering if there would be any tension or awkwardness as Bradley Cooper’s ex and his daughter’s mother, Irina Shayk, and his current girlfriend, Gigi Hadid, both walked in the show. There was none of that. However, Gigi’s younger sister, Bella Hadid, garnered headlines after Selena Gomez reacted to seeing her on the runway.
Here’s what Gomez said, plus why so many fans were convinced the ladies were feuding almost a decade ago.
Why were the ladies rumored to be feuding?
The chatter that Gomez and Hadid were feuding started back in 2017 when Gomez began dating Hadid’s ex, The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye.
Hadid and The Weeknd started dating on and off in 2015. They reportedly split in late 2016. Then, just a few months later, the “Starboy” artist was spotted holding hands with Gomez.
Social media erupted soon after as Hadid unfollowed Gomez on Instagram, leaving many fans to believe that the runway model was confirming a rift.
Gomez and The Weeknd broke up that same year before he and Hadid rekindled their relationship for a brief time. But drama peaked again in 2019 when Gomez unfollowed Hadid as part of her “unfollowing spree.”
That same year, Gomez reached out when she went into the comments section for one of Hadid’s posts and wrote “Stunning.” Hadid then deleted the post, leading many to speculate if it was because of the actress’s interaction. When Gomez was told about it, she commented on a fan account saying, “That sucks,” and insisted there was no ill will.
After Gomez’s ‘girl crush’ comment, she reacted to Hadid’s fashion show appearance
Fast-forward to 2023, when Gomez put the feud rumors to rest by trolling herself while sending Hadid some love.
In a TikTok video, the Only Murders in the Building star used a filter to make her look more like the supermodel with the caption: “I wish I was as pretty as Bella Hadid.”
Gomez then called Hadid her “girl crush” by showing a photo of Hadid’s 2022 photo shoot with Vogue and adding the hashtag “girlcrush.”
Now, the Rare Beauty founder is showing her love again. Harper’s Bazaar shared a clip from the fashion show on Instagram of Hadid strutting down the runway in an all-red ensemble, and Gomez reacted to that clip, writing: “She is [fire emoji].”
Gomez’s latest gesture proved that if there ever was any bad blood between them, it’s over and in the past now. Hadid has moved on, and since 2023 has been dating professional equestrian Adan Banuelos. And the “I Said I Love You First” singer recently wed music producer and collaborator Benny Blanco in a star-studded wedding.
As for the subject of their supposed feud, The Weeknd has been in a relationship with DJ Simi Khadra for years.
