Selma Blair Admitted to Biting People Years Before Her Mid-Flight Meltdown
Selma Blair’s mid-air meltdown has resulted in assault charges after she allegedly fought with flight attendants and reportedly bit one. While her representative has said the violent episode was the result of a medical emergency, Selma Blair has previously admitted to a bit of a biting habit. In her memoir, she revealed she had bitten several celebrities.
What happened on the flight
On October 11, a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York City was thrown into chaos when Selma Blair experienced an episode in which she allegedly tried to open the plane’s door mid-flight and fought with crew members. Port Authority police met her when the plane landed and took her into custody.
She was transferred to a hospital for evaluation, and two flight attendants were treated for injuries. According to the criminal complaint, Blair’s outburst didn’t end once the plane was on the ground. She allegedly kicked an officer while being transported and kicked a nurse after arriving at the hospital.
On October 12, she was arraigned in Queens on two counts of second-degree assault related to the officer and the nurse. Her lawyer entered a not-guilty plea, and she was released after bail was set at $20,000. Separately, she received a federal violation notice charging her with assault over her alleged conduct aboard the aircraft.
A representative for Blair attributed the behavior to a medical emergency following a head injury. Delta said it has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior.
This isn’t the first time Blair has made headlines for troubling behavior on a flight. According to Page Six, she was removed from a Delta flight to Cancún in 2016 after an outburst that alarmed other passengers. She later said she had blacked out after mixing alcohol and medication.
Selma Blair has bitten people before
The biting allegation surprised some fans, but biting apparently isn’t out of character for Blair. In her 2022 memoir, Mean Baby: A Memoir of Growing Up, the actor candidly described biting people when she felt overwhelmed in social situations.
She wrote about three famous people she had bitten over the course of her career. She said she bit Seth MacFarlane at a party in 2004 after being introduced to him, and blamed the incident on being “starstruck” by the Family Guy creator.
She also bit Sienna Miller moments after meeting her. Blair wrote that she sank her teeth into the [Alfie] star for no reason she could explain. She said she “hated” herself for it, but that Miller was kind about the whole situation.
Finally, Blair described biting Kate Moss in a London hotel suite after a Marc Jacobs fashion show. When Blair bit her a second time, Moss didn’t bother addressing it. She just bit her back. Blair wrote that it was the first time she understood how much she might be hurting people when she bit them.
