Sergio García is a renowned Spanish golfer known for his long-spanning career on the PGA and DP World Tours and his success in the Ryder Cup. His crowning achievement is winning the 2017 Masters Tournament. He currently competes in the LIV Golf League and is the all-time leading points scorer in Ryder Cup history.

While Sergio’s accomplishments in the sport are well-documented, fans want to know more about his life away from the course. Here’s more about Garcia’s wife, Angela, and their family.

Angela is an athlete as well

Angela Garcia (née Akins) was born in Texas on Oct. 25, 1985. She is the daughter of Marty Akins, who is a former Longhorns quarterback, and the cousin of former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

Like her father, Angela attended the University of Texas. She played golf on the Longhorns women’s college team and plays off a handicap of three. Angela later became a reporter for Fox Sports Southwest. She then moved to Florida after landing a job at the Golf Channel. She met Sergio while working for that network.

The two began dating, and Sergio proposed to Angela on New Year’s Eve 2016.

When and where Sergio and Angela got married

In July 2017, the couple said “I do” at Angela’s family’s ranch in front of 80 of their closest friends and relatives. The ranch is the same place where Sergio asked Angela to marry him seven months earlier.

“I thought it was unique that I was able to get married in the same beautiful place where I had proposed,” Sergio told Inside Weddings.

Guests were treated to entertainment by a world-class instrumental musician as Sergio shared, “Our great friend Kenny G is the best saxophonist in the world and he put on an incredibly memorable performance for all of us. It was fun seeing all the big smiles on everyone’s faces!”

There was also a fireworks display during the evening.

“My parents surprised us with an eight-minute-long fireworks show,” Angela recalled. “The lights reflected off the lake, and everyone had such an amazing view … it was my favorite part of the entire night!”

Before Sergio, Angela was married to former golfer Ross Hamann for a short period of time.

How many children the Garcias have

Today, Angela and Sergio have two children together.

They welcomed their daughter, Azalea, in 2018, and named her after the flower present at the par-5 13th hole at Augusta National. In 2020, they welcomed their second child, a son named Enzo.

His proud father announced the birth on Instagram, writing, “We’re blessed to have welcomed Enzo Akins Garcia on Friday, April 10, at 6:25 p.m. Enzo and Angela are both doing great. Azalea is very happy to be a big sister and loves taking care of her baby brother already. Hope you all have enjoyed Easter (and Masters) Sunday. God bless from our family to yours!”
