Shedeur Sanders did not step into his rookie season as the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback like some had wanted. Instead, head coach Kevin Stefanski went with fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. Despite Gabriel’s struggles and the noise from fans about bringing Shedeur in, Stefanski stuck with his decision. But then in Week 11, Gabriel came out of the game with a concussion, and Shedeur finally got an opportunity under center.

A thunderous roar erupted at Huntington Bank Field when Shedeur went into the game, but perhaps none of the cheers were louder than the ones from his mother, Pilar Sanders.

Shedeur’s NFL debut though didn’t go the way anyone had hoped. He was sacked twice and went 4 of 16 for 47 yards with no touchdowns and one interception for a 13.5 rating.

Pilar took to Instagram with encouraging words for her son while he was in the game and took a jab at the Browns over his performance.

In the caption of one video, she wrote: “Do your thang! Work with what you’ve got! NFL DEBUT! Never any first-round reps — Never heard of. This is wild to say the least.”

“Stefanski just told everyone … You never got first round reps … come on baby that’s OK,” Pilar can be heard saying in another video clip. “They told everybody you didn’t get first round reps, he wasn’t shy about it … You’re not setting my baby up to fail.”

Shedeur has since gotten in his first-round reps and will start in Week 12 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Browns currently have one of the worst records in the league. But the way Sheduer plays in his next game could sway his coach’s decision about bringing Gabriel back once he clears concussion protocol.
