Every sports team has some fans who take losses hard, and a few who take them too far. Many athletes have been open over the years about how they have gotten plenty of hate and even death threats after a loss.

Now, with so many people thinking they can say anything to anyone from behind a computer screen, these sports figures’ children are having to see and even on the receiving end of messages about their parents.

This was the case with Mike Tomlin’s daughter after his Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the Los Angeles Chargers 25-10 in Week 10.

The head coach’s wife, Kiya, stepped in and shared that their daughter, Harlyn, received a nasty email that read: “I hope your dad f****** dies” along with a racist remark.

Kiya shared the message on her Instagram Stories and wrote, “Just a typical Monday after a loss.”

She then spoke directly to the person who sent it, writing: “It truly sounds as though you are in need of some positivity and inspiration in your life. We aim to offer messages of hope, inspiration, and motivation that might encourage you to move beyond being a racist sideline critic and focus on making a relevant, positive contribution in your own life.”

Kiya has dealt with despicable messages this season herself as seen in the comments section of some of her Instagram posts. Even if she’s just sharing photos of her children, if it’s after a loss, commenters are raging for her husband to be fired and their family to leave town.

But the Tomlins just continue to rise above this because they know the harsh reality is that when the team wins, everyone is happy and the messages stop.
