For the first time in his 11-year career, Stefon Diggs is going to the Super Bowl with his team, the New England Patriots. Diggs is a celebrated wide receiver who has played with four teams since he was drafted. Some have wondered if this means he is a difficult player. He said this has nothing to do with it.

Stefon Diggs said he has been a vital part of every team he’s played with

Diggs admitted he pays “close attention” to the career yards he needs to hit in order to be Hall of Fame material. When he plays, he wants the ball, and he makes no apologies about it.

“I don’t know one star in any sport that doesn’t want the ball,” he told GQ. “If you ain’t getting the ball, and it’s not a problem, you ain’t no competitor.”

Over the course of his career, he has taken this attitude to the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, and, now, the Patriots. His success on the field has led some critics to wonder if his attitude is the reason he has been traded so often. He outright denied this.

“None of those teams wanted to get rid of me,” he said. “Things had to shake because I kind of wanted them to shake.”

Diggs will make his first-ever Super Bowl appearance on Feb. 8. In 2024, he tore his ACL, making his future with the team uncertain. He said he is endlessly grateful to have played this season.

“I’m just so proud of this team man,” he said after the AFC Championship Game, per USA Today. “You don’t know how hard this year has been battling the injury and coming back.”

He said he hopes to make his team proud in the upcoming game.

“This team took a chance on me. I just wanted to make them proud,” he said. “I’m just thankful. I’m thankful.”

He praised the team and coaching staff, noting that they made his hard work worth it.

He said he always strives to be better

Diggs said that part of what makes him a good athlete is his search for constant improvement.

“I love being better at it,” he said. “I love the fact that you can never be perfect. You can be really, really good, but you can’t be perfect. There’s always something to chase.”

When asked who he has leaned on to reach his level of success, he had a clear answer: himself.

“I just hung my hat on, like, I’m going to get to where I want to go, because I want to get there. Not because of nobody else,” he said. “I’m going to put the work in myself, not because of nobody else. Obviously, for my family. But I got to get there. I had a really clear-eyed view on the things I wanted to get done, and where I wanted to go.”
