Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone starred in the 1984 film Rhinestone. While the film flopped, the co-stars’ relationship sizzled with chemistry. Parton denied ever having an affair with Stallone, but tabloids still followed their relationship closely. According to Parton, Stallone’s wife did, too. She said that when Stallone’s first wife, Sasha Czack, was divorcing him, she accused him of having an affair with Parton.

Dolly Parton said Sylvester Stallone’s wife wasn’t happy with her

In 1984, Parton and Stallone starred in Rhinestone. He played her love interest on screen, and many wondered if they were also involved when the cameras stopped rolling. Parton said she loved working with him.

“He was so funny that he’d make me laugh until I’d lose my breath and beg him to stop,” she said, per the book Dolly on Dolly. “He’s really fun to work with — he’s nuts, sick, crazy, a scream!”

While she admitted she found him handsome, she denied ever having an affair with him. She said he wasn’t her type, but Czack reportedly didn’t believe this.

“He’s pretty to look at, too, and I know that when Sasha, his last wife, was getting her divorce, she said we were having an affair,” Parton said. “Not true at all. Sly and I are just not each other’s type.”

Dolly Parton said Sylvester Stallone helped her during a difficult time

Just before shooting Rhinestone, Parton went through a period of illness and depression that left her writing things like, “Why should I commit suicide? I’m waking up dead every day” in her journal. She said that working with Stallone helped her pull herself out of this low point.

“Even though the movie didn’t do that well, that was one of my greatest projects,” she told Rolling Stone. “Because Stallone was so full of life, and so crazy and so funny, and he made me laugh a lot, which was real healthy for me. That movie got me back on track.”

Stallone also said Rhinestone was the most fun he ever had on a film set.

She once said she would never cheat on her husband

While working on Rhinestone, Parton had been married to her husband, Carl Dean, for nearly 20 years. Though she flirted with affair rumors over the years, Parton said she didn’t think she would actually have a secret romance. She liked to flirt, but she didn’t think she would cheat.
