Tate McRae and her management team probably should have reconsidered agreeing to a recent advertising spot. The music artist recently appeared in an ad to back Team USA for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Fans and fellow celebrities didn’t take kindly to McRae’s appearance in the ad for one reason and one reason only. McRae is Canadian. Fellow Canadian celebrities balked at the decision, calling her appearance “traitor s**t.” Followers agree that her decision was especially treacherous, considering the political tension between the two nations.

Tate McRae appears to support Team USA in a recent ad

Tate McRae has appeared in an Olympics ad for Peacock and NBC that suggests she’s fully behind Team USA. In the ad spot, McRae is seen in the snow saying she’s a “bit lost.” She goes on to say she’s looking to meet Team USA, take in some Olympic events in Milan, and head back stateside in time for the “Big Game” on February 8.

The ad could not be more American-coded, leading many fans and fellow celebrities to claim the Canada-born McRae is a “traitor” for supporting Team USA. Following the release of the ad, Canadian comedian Jack Innanen took to Instagram to lambast McRae, calling the ad “traitor s**t.” Several other celebrities weighed in, questioning McRae’s motives and her ability to read the room. Fans have weighed in, too.

She has responded

While fans and fellow celebrities continue to weigh in on Tate McRae’s Olympics ad, she has taken to social media to address the issue. McRae posted to Instagram to insist everyone should know she’s “down” for Canada. She went on to suggest the ad wasn’t that serious. While she didn’t say it, many social media users suggest her response implied that the paycheck was more important than loyalty to Canada. The explanation did little to shore up her image.
