Taylor Swift could break multiple records with her new album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’
Swift’s 11th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, comes out on Oct. 3, 2025. If it hits No. 1, which it likely will, Swift could break multiple records. According to research by VegasInsider.com, if the album hits No. 1 in the United States, she will break her tie with Jay-Z and Drake for the most No. 1 albums on the Billboard Hot 200 for a solo artist. She would also extend her record for the most total weeks at the top of the Billboard 200. At this point, her albums have spent a total of 86 weeks at No. 1.
She would also tie The Beatles as the only artists to hit No. 1 in the United States for seven years in a row. She has hit the top spot on the Billboard 200 every year since 2019. The Beatles hit it between 1964 and 1970, the year they announced their breakup.
Swift would extend her records for most consecutive albums on the Hot 200 and most consecutive albums to debut on the Hot 200. She would also extend her record for the most albums with over 500,000 and 1 million copies sold in the first week.
For Swift, many of these new records just see her continuing to dominate.
Taylor Swift said her new album reflects a happy period in her life
Swift said The Life of a Showgirl is inspired by her time on the Eras Tour. She recorded it as she was traveling around the world, playing shows.
“I would be playing shows. I would do, like, three shows in a row. I’d have three days off,” she explained on Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast. “I’d fly to Sweden, go back to the tour, and was actually working on this. I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating.”
She said this period of her life was joyful, and she hopes the album reflects that.
“This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant,” she said. “It just comes from, like, the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life.”
Swift also began a relationship with Kelce, her now-fiancé, during this time.
Fans shouldn’t expect any more music after the initial drop
While Swift’s fans have come to anticipate surprise drops and special releases. She has already said that they shouldn’t expect that with The Life of a Showgirl.
“There’s no other songs coming,” she said. “With Tortured Poets Department, I was like, ‘Here’s a data dump of everything I thought and felt in two or three years. Here’s 31 songs.’ This is 12. There’s not a 13th, there’s not other ones coming.”
She feels that she curated the album into its best form and doesn’t need to add more.
“This is the record I’ve been wanting to make for a very long time.… Every single song is on this album for hundreds of reasons, you know, and you couldn’t take one out and it’d be the same album,” she said. “You couldn’t add one. It’s just right.”
