Taylor Swift Fans Are Worried About Her New Album: ‘This Will Be Her Downfall’
Taylor Swift recently announced that her newest album, The Life of a Showgirl, will be released this year. Many fans have celebrated the news and already pre-ordered the album. Still, one subset of fans is responding with more trepidation. Swift released her last album, The Tortured Poet’s Department, in 2024 to mixed reviews. Some worry that Swift’s quick turnover between albums will impact the quality of her music.
Taylor Swift is releasing her 12th studio album this year
On Monday, Aug. 11, Swift’s marketing and fan engagement team, Taylor Nation, posted a series of photos to tease her “next era.” The following day, a teaser for Jason and Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights, revealed the title of Swift’s upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl.
The album is already available for pre-sale on Swift’s website. While the album release date has not been announced, the pre-orders will ship before Oct. 13.
Some Taylor Swift fans have expressed concern about the album
Many of Swift’s fans have reacted joyfully to the news of her upcoming album. Still, some wish she had waited a little longer.
“She needs to be gone for some years and let her fans miss her,” wrote one Reddit user. “An artist that’s been out as long as she has and has her accomplishments shouldn’t be moving like a newbie.”
“She needs to give people a chance to miss her,” added another person. “Releasing an album every year and being in our faces all the time will only make non-swifties feel even more repulsive towards her. Wouldn’t she want the opposite effect?
Others worried that the time between albums might impact the quality. Some fans felt disappointed by The Tortured Poet’s Department, which came out in April 2024.
“She has the potential to be an entertaining artist when she takes the time to work on her music but instead she chooses to churn out music, resulting in these clunky lyrics, boring production and half a**ed visuals. Hopefully she surprises everyone but if it’s the same s*** she’s been putting out, keep it. Being the fast food restaurant of the music industry isn’t what any artist should be aiming for.”
Some speculated that it could impact Swift’s legacy if her album isn’t a success with critics.
“She makes music, not art. This will be her downfall and she will be forgotten,” wrote one person. “She’s addicted to staying relevant. I honestly believe she has a fear of being forgotten or left behind.”
She released her last album in 2024
As noted, Swift’s last album, The Tortured Poet’s Department, came out in 2024. Since 2020, Swift has released four new albums and four re-recordings of old albums. The Life of a Showgirl will push her up to nine new releases this decade.
The Tortured Poet’s Department was relatively divisive among critics and fans alike. While it received several Grammy nominations, it took home nothing at the ceremony.
