Why Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Became America’s Favorite Couple
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s romance unfolded right before the eyes of just about everyone on the planet. Swift is a global superstar and has been one of the biggest names in music for years. And, in the states, Travis has been a Super Bowl-winning football star even before he met Swift.
Their relationship single-handedly made the NFL more popular, had fathers and daughters watching the same games on Sundays, and turned plenty of sports fans into Swifties.
So just how did the pop icon and Chiefs tight end become America’s favorite couple? Here’s a little walk down memory lane.
How it started
Swift and Travis’ romance began in 2023, after the athlete talked about trying to meet her when he attended her concert at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
During an episode of his New Heights podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce, Travis spoke about trying to talk to the singer at her concert but admitted it didn’t happen.
“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” Travis shared. “So I was a little butthurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.”
He continued, “If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets. I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it.”
Travis then explained that he left the ball in Swift’s court by inviting her to come see him play, saying, “I told her I’ve seen you rock a stage in Arrowhead and you might have to come see me rock the stage at Arrowhead.”
In Week 3, she did and their love story, at least from what fans knew, really started from there.
How it’s going
Nearly two years after Swift’s first appearance taking in a game at Arrowhead, she and Travis almost broke the internet when they announced that they are engaged.
On Aug. 26, they shared a carousel of photos that included the two embracing as well as close-ups of Swift’s ring. The “Karma” artist and athlete captioned it, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” with a dynamite emoji.
The post quickly racked up more than 35,000 likes, and congrats poured in from fans and other celebrities around the world. Now, all fans can talk about is their wedding. While the couple hasn’t given a date, people have been taking bets on when it could be. Folks are also wondering what type of dress Swift will wear.
At least one psychic thinks they have the answer.
