Is Taylor Swift’s Enormous Engagement Ring Comfortable to Wear? A Jewelry Expert Weighed In
Taylor Swift’s engagement ring is making waves online, partially because of its size and rumored price point. Many people have also noted that the vintage-inspired appearance and yellow gold band seem to suit Swift well. Creative director Emma Snowdon shared why the ring is the perfect fit for the “Lover” singer in more ways than one.
Taylor Swift’s engagement ring is the perfect fit, says a jewelry expert
On Aug. 26, Swift and Travis Kelce posted a joint Instagram announcement to say they were engaged. The photos showed the happy couple in Kelce’s Kansas backyard, and also provided a close-up shot of Swift’s ring. Its large, old mine-cut diamond sits in a yellow gold band. Snowdon, the creative director at Berganza, shared further details.
“Taylor Swift’s engagement ring appears to be a custom-designed piece featuring a large old mine–cut diamond, set in 18k yellow gold with intricate vintage-inspired detailing,” Snowdon tells Showbiz Cheatsheet. “The antique cut gives it a soft, candlelit sparkle, while the craftsmanship and scale make it both deeply romantic and undeniably grand.”
The old mine-cut, which dates back to the 18th century, makes the ring unique. Also, given its size, it makes it expensive.
“Old mine cuts are highly sought after currently, especially among collectors and vintage enthusiasts,” Snowdon said. “This diamond’s large size (probably between 8 – 10 carats) increases its value significantly. Assuming top clarity and color, the piece could easily be valued from £500,000 to £1 million.”
Snowdon noted that when all these details come together, the ring feels perfect for Swift.
“The ring feels like a perfect reflection of Taylor herself,” she said. “The ring captures both sides of her: the girl who treasures love letters and vintage details, and the superstar living an epic love story. In that sense, it’s a symbol that her wedding will carry the weight and spectacle of a modern-day royal affair.”
Though the ring is very large, Snowdon said it likely isn’t burdensome to wear.
“Despite their size, old mine cuts distribute weight differently thanks to their deeper pavilions,” she explained. “They sit lower on the finger than modern brilliants of similar carat, meaning they appear enormous without feeling cumbersome. For someone like Taylor, accustomed to stage jewelry and couture, the ring is likely both comfortable and striking.”
Taylor Swift’s engagement ring could set new trends
Though Swift’s ring feels unique to her, it could spark a new movement. Nilesh Rakholia, a jewelry expert and founder of Abelini, said more people will seek out rings that feel authentic to themselves, even if they don’t follow trends.
“For couples considering their own engagement rings, Swift’s choice offers a valuable lesson,” he explained. “The most meaningful pieces are those that genuinely reflect who you are as a couple, crafted by artisans who understand that they’re creating not just jewellery, but the physical embodiment of a life-changing moment.”
He noted that this is part of a larger “movement toward authenticity.”
Travis Kelce spoke about what he wants in a marriage
Swift’s “deeply romantic” ring reflects the type of marriage Kelce said he hopes to have. His parents divorced when he was in college, and he recalled their relationship being more about their kids than romance. He said he wants something different for himself.
“The handful of my friends whose parents are still together and still thriving — those are situations I would love to have,” he told GQ. “Not that I think my parents dealt with it the wrong way or anything like that. It’s more so, if we’re gonna start this and do it, why not try and do it to last forever? Not just in a ‘It’s just for the kids’ aspect.”
