Well, 2026 is officially off to a weird start. While Teen Mom’s fate remains in limbo, Farrah Abraham is taking her future into her own hands and hopes to one day be responsible for Austin, Texas’ future, too. The former Teen Mom star is throwing her hat in the ring and planning a mayoral campaign. Farrah Abraham wants to be the next mayor of Austin, Texas. There is just one minor problem with her plan: the current mayoral term isn’t over until 2028. This is everything we know so far.

Farrah Abraham is hoping to become the mayor of Austin, Texas

Reality TV stars are just throwing their hat into the ring for political offices en masse in recent weeks. Spencer Pratt is looking to take political office, and now Farrah Abraham is sure she can make the city of Austin, Texas, proud. Farrah took to Instagram earlier today to announce her intention to run for mayor. She claims she will focus on six pillars to secure Austin’s future if the city’s residents elect her.

Farrah is known for her social media stunts and online antics. Over the years, she’s thrown shade at her former co-stars, accused Harvard of discrimination, and alleged she was let go by MTV because of her political beliefs. This is the first time she has so confidently laid out her political aspirations. There might be a slight problem, though.

Farrah Abraham announced her intentions during a non-election year

We don’t know if Farrah Abraham was inspired by the political aspirations of other reality TV personalities. What we do know is that she probably hasn’t done basic research into exactly when she could become mayor of the eclectic Texas city. While Abraham insists she’s looking forward to her 2026 campaign, she’s pretty early to the party. Austin mayors are generally elected to four-year terms. They may not serve more than two terms. The next mayoral election in the city won’t happen until 2028.

The most recent Austin mayoral election was held on November 5, 2024. Kirk Watson was reelected as Austin’s mayor and will hold that office until January 2029, when the next mayor is sworn in. While Watson can’t run for mayor during the next cycle, a decision on his potential predecessor is still years away. We hope Farrah Abraham has somewhere safe to store all of her campaign posters until the time comes.

TMZ let Abraham in on the facts about mayoral terms, and she was completely confused. It looks like she’s reevaluating what positions he’s going to run for, but it looks like no matter what,s he’s ohping for a life in politics.
