Tekashi 6ix9ine has found himself in hot water after comments he made on a podcast were deemed insensitive and disturbing. While Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, has made a name for himself as a controversial figure with aggressive music and odd takes, he might have just taken things a bit too far while discussing drug use and addiction. The rapper is being slammed by fans and foes for offering to send Demi Lovato drugs so she can relapse.

Tekashi 6ix9ine slammed for comments about Demi Lovato

Tekashi 6ix9ine is known for making outrageous comments and engaging in wild behavior. People have come to expect that from the rapper who spent nearly two years in federal prison for gang-related offenses. Still, he can still shock people, and he did just that last week. Tekashi 6ix9ine appeared on Andie Elle’s podcast to discuss his life and self-love, but the interview quickly devolved into an odd rant. The troubled rapper discussed addiction and drug use before zeroing in on Demi Lovato. That’s when things got weird.

During the chat, the rapper said that he believed Demi Lovato would eventually relapse on hard drugs; he offered to speed up the process by sending her drugs. The backlash was swift, with fans and critics absolutely baffled by the insensitive statement and odd decision to bring up Lovato. There is no direct evidence to even suggest that the two musical artists know each other.

Tekashi 6ix9ine was referencing Demi Lovato’s very public battle with substance abuse. Lovato has been open and honest about the most raw and vulnerable moments of her journey towards sobriety. The songstress nearly died in 2018 after an opioid overdose left her hospitalized for weeks. After leaving the hospital, she entered a long-term rehab facility and has been sober since. The overdose came weeks after she admitted to relapsing following years of sobriety.

The rapper doubled down on the comments

Tekashi 6ix9ine isn’t interested in apologizing for his crass statement, despite the backlash. TMZ caught up with the rapper after his podcast appearance began circulating, and he insists that he was simply making a joke. Tekashi told the outlet that his statement was his attempt at “dark humor” and that he is hardly the problem in this situation. He claims everyone has simply grown “overly sensitive.” No public apology was issued.

Demi Lovato has not commented on the situation. The “Cool for the Summer” singer has been pretty busy for the last year, and she’ll be keeping herself busy moving forward, too. Her May 2025 wedding to songwriter Jordan Lutes was heavily covered by the media, with fans thrilled she found a happy ending after troubled previous relationships. Since then, she’s been seemingly embracing married life and focusing on her career. Lovato has announced a tour that will kick off in April. She even appeared on a podcast last month to discuss why she opted to make her rehab journey public.
