Teyana Taylor Admitted She Felt ‘Friendly Jealousy’ Over Leonardo DiCaprio’s Viral Golden Globes Moment
Teyana Taylor recently revealed the conversation that made Leonardo DiCaprio get so animated at the Golden Globes. In a now-viral moment, DiCaprio points to another attendee and engages in a spirited discussion with them. Taylor intially that he was talking to her and, while she doesn’t remember their exact conversation, said they were discussing KPop Demon Hunters. After some consideration, though, she’s not as certain.
Teyana Taylor initially said Leonardo DiCaprio was talking to her in his viral Golden Globes moment
DiCaprio’s animated conversation with an attendee at the Golden Globes went viral after the ceremony. The exchange occurred when KPop Demon Hunters won Best Original Song from an animated movie. When asked about it, his One Battle After Another co-star, Taylor, revealed he’d been talking to her.
“And the crazy part about it is, I’m so blacked out from that day, that I want to say we may have been talking about KPop Demon Hunters,” she told Access Hollywood. “Because I was so happy when they won, because my kids love KPop Demon Hunters. So, I was over there just jamming, and I think he just caught me jamming and we started talking about it.”
Though Taylor knew DiCaprio was interacting with her, she couldn’t remember what he was saying.
“But I just don’t remember what he was saying, I don’t even think I really heard what he was saying,” she admitted. “I was probably just laughing and kiki-ing back and had no clue back and had no clue what he’s saying.”
Teyana Taylor later said Leonardo DiCaprio hadn’t been talking to her
Taylor said that while she initially felt she “broke the Da Vinci code” over realizing DiCaprio was talking to her, she began to question her claim.
“So when I first seen it, I didn’t watch the whole thing,” she said on The Tonight Show (via People). “So I was like ‘Oh, you’re talking about KPop Demon Hunters, he’s talking about me.’ But then I watched it and they was doing the lip-read thing, and I had to call Leo.”
She said she realized that he couldn’t have been talking to her in the clip. Unfortunately for her, DiCaprio couldn’t clear things up.
“And I’m like ‘Who else is you kekeing with like that?’ Because literally that’s how we [talk, with animated gestures],” she said. “So I had a little friendly jealousy, I was like ‘Who else are you chewing your invisible gum with?’ He didn’t even remember who he was talking to. He was like ‘I don’t even know.'”
She took home a Golden Globe that night
Taylor celebrated KPop Demon Hunter’s win after taking home a Golden Globe of her own. She won Best Supporting Actress for her role in One Battle After Another.
“I almost didn’t even write a speech because I didn’t think I was [going to win],” she said in her speech. “Thank you to the Golden Globe voters for seeing me and reminding me that purpose always finds its moment.”
Taylor shouted out her children and thanked director Paul Thomas Anderson. She closed out her speech by dedicating the win to “my Brown sisters and little Brown girls watching.”
“Our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much,” she said, adding, “Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space.”
