While Teyana Taylor did not take home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, she seemed very happy with fellow nominee Amy Madigan’s win. Taylor, who received a nomination for her role in One Battle After Another, jumped to her feet when Madigan won for her role in Weapons. After some online commenters criticized her reaction, she explained why she was so excited. She later posted in support of Madigan for a second time.

Teyana Taylor defended her reaction to Amy Madigan’s Oscar win

When Madigan won for Best Supporting Actor, Taylor jumped out of her seat and began applauding. Some people criticized her clear excitement. Taylor pushed back at anyone who questioned her behavior.

“The world holds so much misery that miserable hearts forget the face of happiness,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “They grow comfortable being sore losers, so when they see real sportsmanship it unsettles them! like holy water touching a demon. Because clapping for someone else’s victory requires something many people never learned … how to win with grace & pure joy, and how to lose with grace, chin up & dignity.”

Madigan reacted with a similar level of ebullience when Taylor won Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes earlier this year.

Teyana Taylor posted in support of Amy Madigan a second time

After defending her reaction to Madigan’s win, Taylor doubled down on her support. She posted a photo of Madigan wearing a pair of shoes and merch from Taylor’s collaboration with Nike called Concrete Rose.

“And this is why I will always stand up for this incredible woman. The amount of love she shows in front and behind the scenes is beyond the sweetest & so genuine. My ladyyyyyyyy Amy always representinggg. It’s how much fun she’s having in her concrete rose garden gear and her concrete rose 3’s.”

She added that Madigan deserved praise and a new pair of shoes.

“You deserve your flowers & good kicks!” she wrote.

She had an altercation with a security guard who blocked her from getting onstage

Taylor also reacted joyfully when One Battle After Another won Best Picture. Unfortunately, when she tried to get onstage to take a cast photo, a security guard physically blocked her.

In a video of the moment, Taylor told the guard, “You’re very rude, very rude, very rude.” She also turned to tell another attendee, “He literally shoved me.”

The Academy addressed the situation in a statement the following day.

“We were extremely upset to learn about the experience endured by Teyana Taylor at the end of the Oscars ceremony last night,” it read, per Deadline. “We have worked with Teyana over the last several months during awards season, and she has been nothing short of remarkable, supportive, kind, and all about community.”

They noted that an outside security firm handled the event, but still confirmed they would work to ensure this didn’t happen in the future.

“Though the incident was with our outside security firm SIS, the experience of every single guest is our responsibility. We have made it clear to them that this behavior is not acceptable. We want to thank Teyana for showing remarkable grace, and we are taking the appropriate measures to ensure this does not happen again.”

Taylor responded and thanked the Academy for its “unwavering love & support.”
